The first part of this reply is pointed at Luke the rest of it is information for the original poster.

Luke, I have sat by for a long time and very seldom do I jump into or answer anything you have written, most of it to me seems to be bantering and joking around. This post I do not find to be a joke nor bantering. A new person came in for information, so lets give him the correct info.

Even tho I doubt you will reply to my questions I will ask them anyways,

How Long have you been a mechanic? Auto? Truck? Motorcycle? Scooter?

How long have you made your living with the above?

What kind of different manufacturers/distributors have you dealt with and repaired or sold their machines?

How long have you been a motor vehicle dealer? What brands?

My Information.

Started working on cars and bikes with my Dad around 1963. Thru my teens working with buddies on cars and bikes. During my service years, I always had a part time job as a mechanic or working out of my own garage. After retirement from the service in 1991 I managed the shop I am in now and bought out the owner in 1993 and still here.

We did things a bit backwards from some, we started as a repair shop then became a State Licensed Motorcycle/ Scooter Dealer and repair facility. So when we were ready to be a Dealer we knew what we were getting into and where to find parts, machines and how to deal with people.

A partial list of what we have repaired, ATVs, Scooters, Road Bikes, Dirts Bike, Real Mopeds, mini bikes: Harley, Honda, Yamaha, Kaw, Norton, BSA, Triumph, Victory, Tank, Roketa, Jonway, Sym, Ice Bear, CF Moto, Linhai, Vespa, Baron, Tao Tao, the list goes on.

Dealership ( past and present ) Tank, Jonway, DIAX ( Ice Bear) Roketa.

I think the above more than qualifies me to comment on the quality and life expectancy of Chinese Scooters.

Now for the original question:

Chinese scooters are not junk. I have customers that have well over the 10,000 mile mark without any major work. How do I know this, because I service them. Just like anything else, routine maintenance is the key. I don't care what brand of vehicle you have, if you don't maintain it it will fail on you. Also your speedo remark is totally out of line.

Chinese scooters got some bad reps when they came on the scene, admittedly back then, they did have some issues with realiabilty and inferior hoses and some parts, but then again so did Japanese machines when they first came on the scene. When the Japanese machines became available, people said the same things about them, Japanese Junk. The Chinese Scooters have come a long way in the pat few years. Most manufacturers have learned their lessons and are now using better parts and building better machines. I find it humorous that the Chinese are doing to the Japanese what the Japanese did to us.

Another thing that gave the Chinese Scooters a black eye was the fact the they were shipped in crates to the consumer, no other manufacturer did that. "Little Johnny" would receive his new scooter and just do the minimum to get it running then blame the machine when he had problems. It is human nature to fault something other than to admit that you didn't do what you were supposed to or do it right. Where with the Japanese, Italian, Harley, ect, had to be bought from a Brick and Mortor store, that had already done the PDI and Inspection before the machine was allowed to be sold. Hense, because the work had been done prior to sale, there was less likely to be problems. If you think that B&M Dealers get their machines 100% ready to ride you have another thought coming. Just go to your local Yamaha Dealer on delivery day and see what is inside the container, CRATES! I know of what I speak, I have seen it first hand at a local Yamaha Dealer. And yes there are brand new machines that they have problems with.

As far as what brand is better than others, it really boils down to personal opinion. Kinda like Ford vrs Chevy vrs Dodge. I admit I am not a big fan of CF Moto, basically from a parts avalabilty stand point. If you are not a CF Moto Dealer you will have issues getting parts. At least that has been my experience being an independent. Luckily I have found a CF Moto Dealer fairly close to me, that will supply parts to me, but even they have problems getting parts at times. Does this mean CF Moto is inferior? NO! I perfer Linhai Clones and standard GY6. I have not had many issues getting parts, either from my distributors or from after market sources. They are not rocket science to work on and most problems are easily repaired.

The main thing to consider is finding a Dealer that will stand behind what he sells and will give you service after the sale. Perferably one that is a Real Dealership that actually works on what they sell, not an online person that sells out of his bedroom and has never even seen in person what he sells, let alone ever worked on one. Don't get me wrong, there are some really excellant online only dealers, but sadly they are far and few between. Just do your homework before you commit to buy.

You are right, my biggest complaint was trying to get parts as a non dealer then hearing their dealers were having the same problems.

C-3 Yamaha. Garbage. It's even worse than a junky Morphous. Nobody bought that either so it was dropped for uselessness and ugly. No wonder Yamaha is number two.

Plus, you can't get parts for it. Do your wife a favor and buy her something good. And you didn't answer Jim's question.
