Ok. I need someone well verse in the wiring harness for a gy6 scooter....I want to simplify my wiring harness and remove all the crap I don't want from it...more or less I'm wanting to have a start button and kill swotch, headlights And brake lights...is anyone willing to help me accomplish this.I have a hard time reading the wiring digram. If anyone would help, I'd greatly appreciate it...
And yes I am fully aware that it is illegal to not have turnsignals. I use hand signals just fine. I just need to simplify it for myself....

So all you really need to do is UNPLUG the turnsignals from there connectors and the instrument panel connectors. You surelly do not need a wireing diagram for that just follow the wires for each function and unplug them from the connectors. You are making this more difficult than it is.

Nay, just follow the wires back from the turnsignals and unplug them and tie the wire up AND may I make a suggestion Label the unplugged wires. Just in case you need to plug them back up. Now you know if a cop sees you making turns and do NOT have turn signals he may stop you and want to either warn you or even give you a ticket. Vehicles on the streets MUST have turn signals, HAND SIGNALS only IF you happen to loose a light or something. Some cops will go as far as tell you to follow them to an autoparts to get a bulb.

Well I kind of got that basically but I also don't have a stock handlebars anymore, and do not have a stock speedo. Right now all the everything is sitting in my glove box. What I want to accomplish is to remove it completly from the harness. Not just have it tied up. I really want to make it simple...just have the wires I need to make it run.....and run the lights...
Pluuuuussssss, since I swapped out my handlebars and ripped out my cluster, I no longer know what wire is what. I figured it would be easier to go from the other end of the harness and work forward.

I'm not trying to be nasty but I would be glad to assist you step by step only if you're willing to take the body panels off, strip all the old wires, and hard wire it from scratch. I'm not going to try to figure out what's what on a Chinese harness. It's not difficult to wire them and if you really want to clean things up that's the way to do it IMO. By the way, in 'Bama you don't need turn signals on a motorcycle. I'm sure most states aren't like that. Rich

Turn signals are required in Indiana, if they were factory signals from the manufacturer.

I'm not going to try to figure out what's what on a Chinese harness. It's not difficult to wire them and if you really want to clean things up that's the way to do it IMO. I started today by eliminating some of the wiring up front under the nose of the scoot. I am also having a starting issue....(prior to me messing with my scooter today) I did add a new starter relay and a new starter switch. Still not starting. But when I test the plugs with a light tester its clear that the power is there and that I can control it with the switch. So I'm not sure why its not working......I can jump the relay by connecting the terminals and it works.... So I have an issue in my wiring... Well what I am wanting to accomplish is to clean up the entire wiring system and only have headlights and brake lights and the ignition system. As well as make my harness more accessible, instead of having to pull apart the front fairring to get to it. I was either thinking in the glove box or under the floor mat, in the opening next to my battery box. That option IMO seems more easier, since if something goes wrong I can easisly get to it and also replace a wire or anything with out having to take off all The body panels. I think I broke my fear of messing with the harness, so I think simplifying it will be easy and tough at the same time. The only thing I may need help on is if I decide to make my own harness, where can I get the plugs and everything I need to make my own harness?  I'm hoping in the next week or 2 it will be done and I will be free of all electrical issues!!!! And see if I can find a way to tuck my wires as well!!! |

In my head I'm either thinking of using the same connectors that came on the scooter, or just buying new ones and make it myself.....still not sure yet....I really would like to get away from the Chinese wires and run better ones. |

Buy new connectors the Chinese ones are awful...you can probably do away with about 80% of them anyhow...
I suggest you float your grounds... I think Rich does it the same way...

I'm no expert on scooter wiring but after wiring my project scooter with a new "generic" scooter wiring harness I really have to agree with Bashen. I spent an entire day sorting the ins and outs of the new harness. The more I worked on it the more I became convinced I could do better.....Not only were there excess wires for who knows what but the color coding of the wires sometimes changed not once but twice from the front of the scoot to the back....confusing to say the least....So, I did what Bashen is suggesting that you do and that is start from scratch. My situation was a little different in that I "wanted" full functionality....ie, turn signals, etc....Wiring schematics can be confusing because a lot of times you have to figure out whether the wires connect to each other or whether they just pass over each other as indicated in the schematic. (Sometimes a connection is marked by a large dot, but not always) To help me understand this and make it easier for me to "see" their function I used a scoot wiring diagram I got online (pdf file) and then edited out the entire schematic, leaving only the switches on the diagram. This was my starting point and I added circuits in one at a time until all systems on the scoot were working. Where wires crossed each other on the diagram but didn't connect, I used an inverted U to indicate a crossing and not a connection. I used the connectors from the generic harness only because it made the process less $$ painful. I didn't want to waste the money I had spent on the replacement harness. Doing it this way, one step at a time makes the job manageable. I positioned my start relay, CDI, ignition coil, battery, and reg rectifier on a mounting plate under my seat. Everything in one place. I hope my 2 cents worth of experience on my project helps you and good luck on your project. Here is a pic of where I located the vitals:  |

Nice, I plan on redoing the wiring system soon. but as of right now. i want to do it with the cheap crap. i need it done by this weekend. and dont have the money to do a trial and error. This way when i do it this way...ill call it my "rough draft" so that i know next time where the wires are and how to run them. I plan on mounting the cdi, coil, starter relay and rectifier under my floor mat on the left side of my battery, there is a nice sized "cubby hole" that im going to gut out and fiberglass the bottomso that it doesnt leak. it is plenty enough space, the size of the battery box!!!!! I dont think im going to have much trouble. I already eliminated about 3ft of harness from the front. All i need to do is pull the harness out from the scoot and go to town!!! im not expecting it to be an easy job. but not expecting it to be a hard one either...also since i am eliminating a ton for things i dont need it will simplify it up for me. When i go and do it the right way, It will all be done with quality wires and connectors and be color coded the same thru and thru....But right now im on a deadline and i have to cut this corner. Granted it would be the best way to do it correctly, but i dont have time to make mistakes and waste wires....We shall see, and if it seems that i cant get it done by sunday...then i will definatly be going back to sq 1 and do it right.....I already got a 4 page instruction on how to wire it up the way that i want it to be ran...  thanks to a new friend!!!!! |

Wow New2scooters, that looks great. Nobody said the electrical components have to go in the factory spot, move 'em and get them out of the way, that's what I say. However, Gysixxer, the R/R radiates some heat. If you put it in that tight spot just make sure there's ventilation.
