I'm looking for some mods/parts/stuff to do to my 139qmb that will improve what little reliability and longevity these engines have.

I'm already thinking of an oil catch can and/or secondary crankcase vent.

Of course all of the usual stuff like regular fluid changes, check the tightness of all bolts/nuts/screws, regular walk arounds and inspections, etc

I thought about an oil cooler or even an oil filter, but it seems the oil pump on these engines are really only designed to get oil up to the valvetrain. I looked for an auxiliary oil pump, but they were all too big or took too much power.

Thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

anything you can do to reduce the heat and or friction of the engine and transmission will provide longer life and reliability.

same goes with balancing components to make them run smoother. eg: balancing the tires would provide a smoother ride and more consistent load- this could be done using adhesive wheel weights

Well I thought they had a 50cc pump as well, it appears that they never did or removed it. Can I send you some money to buy a 150cc?

OK, buy one of these, they work for oil also:

Then one of these from siliconeintakes.com:

Then an adapter like this goes in your side drain plug:



And the system dumps back into your valve cover to further cool running down the tower. This drops your oil temp from about 260 to 200. You have to drill into the valve cover and put a squeeze fitting in, it just screws down from both sides. JR did a nice oil cooler too, I'm sure it's on his site. There, now I never want to think of your 50cc again!!

Bull is correct,,anything you can do to make the engine and drivetrain run smoother and cooler will definately help with the reliability and a longer service life,,,but it's a balance between costs and diminished returns,,,,on some but not all of the bikes and cars i build,, the costs sometimes far outweigh the value of the thing i'm working on,,,,,,,

I'm starting to realize that now...

I wonder if I can use the radiator from my old watercooling loop for this...

guys have been using castoff and reperposing parts from totally unrelated cars /bikes even appliances to get the job done inexpensively,,,case in point the dr350 i ride every day has a silly plastic guard for the rear brake caliper stock,,,,i fabbed one up out of stainless steel from a rollaway BBQ that someone put out to the curb,,,i stopped and grabbed the regulator (usa made) and the lower ss doors,,it was thick and just what i needed in a pinch for no dough,,,perfect,,,,you can do the "junk yard" repairs if you're handy,,AND you don't mind doing the fabrication,,,,AND double AND you are not in a hurry,,,,,,i would think a small trans cooler from a car would work nicely,,,it would really help if i could spell,,,jesus like 40 edits,,,,dddddooohhhh

Those radiators I showed say you can run antifreeze, oil, or transmission fluid. So I'd say yeah, you could use an old radiator for oil. And yeah Pedro, the total cost of the things I posted pics of is about a $100.00. Of course when I did it I had to go WAAYY overboard and use a 10 amp pump, a 3 amp fan, a big arse radiator, and temp sensors. At least we have that in common, we drive ourselves insane. It actually did work...I just lost interest in it. Was that a butterfly?.....I go chase.....wheeeeeeeeee!

I was actually referring to a radiator from a computer watercooling loop; something similar to this:

Also, in that picture you posted that shows the adapter at the side drain plug; did that get in the way of the c-stand? I have something similar to that for my oil temp gauge and it almost hits the c-stand when it is up.

Did you ever notice how interesting the back of your hand is....? Huh? Center stand? Oh yeah, I took it off, it smelled of cheese. I really did take it off, I'm not sure why, I think because it was there.

FROZEN CPU, FROZEN CPU, FROZEN CPU!!! One of my favorite sites in the universe! I wander their cyber shop sticking cyber components down my cyber pants. They have this case which is the focus of my next build:

Does that not look like the top to a sky scraper with the giant A/Cs on top? Too cool, I have a CPU cooler as big as your head that's going in it. A couple of LED fans....it will be epic. I'd like a clear PSU...how cool would that be!?

Oh yeah, you forget the egocentrism thing, it's all about me. OK cheesy bread, that would be 4" X 11" X 1". Uh oh! It's the 1" that's the problem. That would not transfer much heat. I really don't think that would transfer enough heat to help. These engines generate a lot more heat than a pooter.

love the radiator arrangement,,,nice install,,,the dash panel,,,i think it needed to be a little bigger so you get like 2 miles to the gallon,,,i'll bet you didn't have to have your readers on for that baby,,you could read those gauges from the moon ,,,,HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!!!,,,,,hopefully it was just a test mule and then condensed it all down like 5000% so it actually fit on the bike,,,,,
