Okies, let's start a new thread.

After adjusting the valves, the first time it couldn't wait to start fast enough. But now, I get an odd behavior. It will give one turn, stop, then turn and start. It's as if the battery were nearly dead, then decides that it isn't dead after all. I have a solar panel permanently attached so keeping it juiced is no problem.

Loose connections . Are you hearing a click and no turning over ? Or only turns overvwith the click ,

No click, it turns the once, stops, then starts normally after that. Just leave the start button pushed, always that first turn, then it starts.

Sounds like a bad ground.

I was wondering if I had just not tightened the valve adjustment enough, when I go back and double check that I can check for other loose wires, etc.

Run new grounds bulked up , clean the connection points too.

How old is the battery?

Year old, but constantly charged via solar panel. And it DOES turn over, like I said. Just that first turn, stop, then starts normally. If it just ground slower and slower before starting anyway I'd think battery, too. Wouldn't hurt to test it, I guess.

I could just be that on that first push the piston is already on it compression stroke and since it did not get a HEAD WIND as one would say it could not push past the compression stroke fast enough until the next couple of revolution of the crank and it fires on the next compression stroke. It will happen when by chance the motor has been stopped and it stopped just before the compression stroke.

Alley has a good point, is it a BBK or anything like that? If the battery is the original the history of it is very suspicious. But even new batteries can be defective. If the battery has a physical defect sometimes it takes a hit of the starter button to wake the plates up. I say this from recent personal experience and not anything I've read. My bike was doing the same thing and I hooked a new battery up and it stopped doing the freeze thing on the first hit. Put the old battery back in, went back to freezing. So try this, make sure it's doing the freeze thing, unhook the battery and take the battery out. Use jumpers to hook your car battery right to the scooter's cables. DO NOT START THE CAR!!!! Now try starting the scooter. Does it do the freeze thing? No? It's probably the battery. Does it still do it? It's probably the starter....maybe the solenoid. But try the jump with the OLD BATTERY OUT. If it stops doing it you may need a battery. Take it to Wally World and get it load tested to be sure. Rich

Alley, it seems to me that if it were a matter of position, it wouldn't do it every single time, just 'on occasion'.

I'll vote for the battery getting old too. My 150 was starting to do that a few weeks before the dog got it and I was going to order a yuasa on line.

+1 on bad battery, as it's consistent.
It's like it's asleep, and needs to be woken up.
Some day, it won't wake up.

Well, took the battery in to be tested, the tech shook his head sadly, crossed himself, and gave last rites. I'm not too surprised, its the original OEM battery and it's a full year old. That may be a record.

Haven't been able to 'jump start' it but I hope for an opportunity tonight if it doesn't rain. I suspect it will work fine, but JIC there is another problem dot dot dot.

Jump started it last night. It's starting better, but that is either with the old battery or plugged in.
