Timing is not adjustable on these engines.

Blazef20, Your timeing should not be off, unless the Chain on the Cam jumped a tooth or the Woodruff Key on the Shaft the Magneto slides onto moved out of position. If that happened then you would have other problems. So I would just make sure the Holes on the Cam Sprocket are lined up as in the pictures before adjusting your Valves and when in that position you should be able to wiggle both Rockers with your fingers which means Both Valves are closed and the Rockers are OFF the High Lobes of the Cam which is what you want. ok so i finally got the tools to adjust my valves. The exhaust valve was fine but the air intake valve was not. couldnt even get the feeler gauge between the darn thing. so i adjusted to .004 and it does seem to run better. More smooth and alot more power. heres a pic of my timing just the way alley showed me how to do it. it looks ok but a few more opinions wont hurt. Hows it look fellas

Blazef20, LOOKS REALLY GOOD!! Good job. Timeing Looks right on. Now if you still have BACKIREING it would be AIR LEAKS(Vacuum leaks by your intake where your carb attachs to the Intake and or Your Header Pipe is loose where it mounts to the engine) and or your running really LEAN. Alleyoop

there is not alot of backfiring now just when i let off and not really much there either but i do get white smoke out the tailpipe. It idles awesome now and it goes. just a couple more bugs to work out(starting, and crap like that) and i can find me a scoot. I also noticed i DO have a rip in the intake manifold so that is comin tomorrow if i can one from the shop in town

Blazef20, GREAT!! I think you have found your minor backfiring. If it sucks air when you let off the throttle it will backfire. So check for any AIR LEAKS and I think you have got the backfireing down.
If hard starting WHEN COLD it will be your Enricher not working(CHOKE) NOT RETRACTING to ALLOW extra fuel for Cold Starts. If hard starting AFTER ITS WARM it is still your Enricher but it is NOT EXTENDING to shut off the Extra Fuel and it is Flooding your Plug out. Alleyoop

ok thats what i was thinkin but i wasnt sure. Is there a way to bypass this and maybe put a manual choke in. Maybe a push button primer? Amd i do need to get a new airbox. when i got this one the box was gone. i put together an air filter for now. Homemade job that way crap cant get sucked into the carb

one more ? if u dont mind. As i said i bypassed the vacuum pump and drilled it out so it is gravity fed now. What i would like to know about is the vacuum lines. i took the air cut valve and the intake vacuum and put them together. Will this affect anything

You did the right thing. The Air Cut Valve(deceleration dispghram) which needs vacuum to work needs to have suction. That feeds fuel when your let go of the throttle so it doesn't start backfireing on you.
Also now that it is gravity feed make sure the Fuel Line and Fuel Filter ARE NOT LOWER than the Carb. Alleyoop

i made sure of that before i did it. the tank is above the carb and the pump. made sure there was no kinks or curves in gas line to just a straight flow to carb. but do have to get a fuel shut off valve for line. i want to thank u alley for all the help u've given to me. thanks so much
