I have a 2004 Cfmoto 150 ejewel and when I push the starter button all I hear is a loud click from what looks like a solenoid with a wire that comes in from the motor and attaches and then goes out directly to the battery with a wiring harness and fuse attached to the top, my question is what exactly is this and where do I find another one? I think I shorted it out by having some of the wire exposed to the frame. Thanks Attachments:

There is a possibility that your battery may be low or you have a poor connection between the battery the solenoid. This would also cause a clicking noise without the starter turning over. A quick check would be to momentarily bridge the two large terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver. If the starter turns over, then the solenoid is probably bad. If the starter does not turn over, then check the connections at the battery along with the charge on the battery.
The only short that could hurt the solenoid would be on the wire which leads from the solenoid to the starter. Even then, the solenoid would probably withstand a momentary short as it's designed to handle high currents.

When you bridged the solenoid did the starter run? If it ran the solenoid is OK. If it didn't run the solenoid need to be replaced.
from what you say the solenoid clicked? Then it is not good...the starter has to run...
Also the battery will show a full charge and still have a bad cell.. you need to have it load tested at an automotive place... you can'r assume the battery is good because the charger says it is with a green light etc...
Try jumping the battery from a car... just DON'T have the car running when you do it or you will blow the scooter's electrical components

No it did not run when it was bridged it just clicked, which would mean I have a bad connection somewhere right? And the battery is brand new fully charged

No the solenoid is not working.. it should RUN the starter if the battery is good...
But lots of new batteries are bad out of the box... how long have you charged it?

the battery is about a week old and was working perfectly until this happened with the solenoid but i did have a large bare wire sitting on metal frame for probably quite awhile. do you know where I can find a new solenoid like this at an auto parts store?

When you bridge across the two terminals with the nuts on them, you are bypassing the solenoid. You have a direct connection from the battery to the starter. If the starter spins, the solenoid is most likely bad because the clicking sound that you originally heard indicates that the starter switch and brake circuits are working. If the starter does not spin when bridging the terminals with the nuts on them, then you have either a weak battery, a bad connection from the battery to the solenoid or from the solenoid to the starter or a bad starter.

Well I checked the voltage coming from the solenoid to the starter and I have power to the starter, I even directly connected the battery to the starter and nothing happened so I am thinking I have a bad starter. Anyone know where to find a new one?
