Took my little GY6 for a long ride (for her) about 16 miles, let her sit a couple hrs while I worked on son's car, then another 16 miles back home. She started to run low on gas so filled her back up. Other than going really slow uphill, no problems. That was Tuesday.

Wed morning I pulled the body panels loose on the front end to see if my speedometer was attached properly because it don't work. It is attached both to instrument cluster and wheel so guess I need a new one, probably order new cluster too cause mine is cracked. Disconnected the lights so I could see what kind of bulbs it uses because I'd like to upgrade to LED. Got all my wires plugged back in, went to start her & no go.

She turns over but doesn't quite catch. She almost caught once but not quite. When I twist the throttle it acts like it is doing nothing, like no extra gas to her. I know she needs some work & I usually have to twist the throttle a bit to get her to actually catch & start when she has sat more than a few hours. Is it possible I got a loose wire or something? I took the covers back off at the handlebars and checked every wire & connection I saw but none looked loose. She ran the battery down trying to start so I charged it & tried again, still no go. She got real low on fuel last night when we reached an open station but she cranked right up and no trouble getting home from there, that's about 3-4 miles from my home.

Yep, clean the carb and replace the filter also. while you're doing the filter make sure gas will flow out of the tank. Sometimes crud can get lodged in the bottom of the tank.

I'm putting my bets on dirt in the carb.I never let me bike go empty.Also be a good idea check for vacume leaks on the manifold side also unscrew the the nut on the bottom of your tank and check the line inside for dirt. carb cleaner from your local halfords or ebay works a treat.check your clearance on your tappets.

First thing before messing with the Carb is Adjust your valves if you already haven't done that.
If they are tight trying to compensate with with the carb you may get it to act better but not solve the problem and it will get worse. After adjusting the Valves Then Clean out the carbs PILOT JET and ITS PASSAGE. Spray has to come out by the tiny holes by the butterfly when you spray into the pilot jet hole. Many just clean the jet but do not bother making sure the Pilot Jet fuel outlets by the butterfly are clear. They are very tiny and anything will clog them up.

I'll give cleaning the carb a go tomorrow then, need to read up on these and how to adjust the valves. Hope it doesn't rain, was woke up around 3 am by cat having kittens so when I finally went back to bed, I slept until 2 pm.

Would Advance carry a filter to fit these?

Are you talking about the Fuel Filter or the Air Filter? You can pick up fuel filters for lawnmovers but do not get a big one. Try and find one same size as what is on there. I use VISU you can clean them and reuse them and they are very strong will not break:

Thanks for the video alley it helped answer a question I had earlier in the year. If a scooter is running well you probly shouldn't mess with doing this right?

side question, how do I know the length of my speedo cable? looking up the 139QMB engine it shows several different lengths ranging from 32" to 39". I'm not worried about a couple inches too much but I sure don't want one that's too short. So any way to find out other than taking mine off & measuring? It doesn't work anyways so no big deal to remove it. And will I need to replace the puck on the wheel as well?

so I sprayed the carb out and ran a fine wire all the way through every tube & opening. Couldn't take it off the scoot completely because the screws for the enricher are stuck & almost stripped so I couldn't take it off. Most the fuel lines are soft but the idiot store gave my son the wrong size line, even when he went in with an exact list that included part #s. They gave him 1/4" inside diameter fuel line, not 1/4" fuel line.

Mine also has the 2 vacuum port intake manifold, don't know if that makes a difference. All my fuel lines & vacuum lines seem to be the same size.

The numbers on the carb are YCB-P001-22. Don't know if that gives any info, like specs.

Also, on the side, clipped to the frame was a canister with a capped off hose at the end. There was fluid inside the hose and when I took it off, it smelled kinda like gas but looked like motor oil when a car has blown a head gasket, you know, white & watery, almost like a greasy milk consistency.





am I better off to rebuild my carb or just get a replacement, except for gaskets and screws, everything looks in good shape, even the plastic float

Take a picture of the CARB, by the way you do not have to take the ENRICHER off to take the carb off, Just unplug it. Then to take the ENRICHER off take your philps screwdriver put it in the the screw and give the TOP OF the screw driver a good wack. That will loosen the threads inside and they should come out.

Also that hose with oil is from your valve cover VENT hose, so just unplug it and drain the oil out and recap it.

Will get out and check as soon as it quits raining. Started early yesterday, just as I got back with new hoses. Makes me wish I had a garage or shed to work on her in. And both my fuel & vac lines are 3/16". Have to rig an adapter out of brass plumbing parts to use with the fuel filter.

Side question - took speedo cable off & measured, 39" from one end to other but it was looped a little. Is that the right length for my scoot?

Ok, that hose with the capped off tube goes to a black canister mounted almost right under the gas tank.

Also, got the carb cleaned, replaced my fuel line, new filter & new NGK spark plug and it still wont start. Can't see any fuel going down into the new filter either. Tank has something looking like a huge nut attached to the bottom, looks like a vacuum operated petcock based on a pix on scrappydog scooters. Wondering if that might have gone bad. She never ran out of gas, needle was showing 1'4 tank when I filled her back up, she ran fine rest of the way home that day but next day wouldn't start.

That huge nut as you call it attached to the gas tank underneath is the PETCOCK. It is operated by VACUUM. Check the vacuum line going to it make sure it is not cracked or broke or off. The vacuum opens the valve inside the PETCOCK to allow fuel to flow out the fuel hose to your filter and carb.
Without Vacuum no fuel.

So trace the vacuum line attached to the PETCOCK all the way back and make sure that vacuum line is good and intact.

This is the PETCOCK that is attached to the tank. Take the fuel hose off the carb and find the Vacuum line going to the PETCOCK and apply suction to the Vacuum Line you can use a BASTER if you have one or suck on the line.
When you do fuel should come out of the fuel hose.
GET BACK ON THAT TEST.
