Elevation is on MY mind! As MSILSF's former Vice-President, Carl M. Hancock, Esq. so aptly opined today, this is going to be a roller-coaster race. When the route was revised, no consideration whatsoever was given to altitudes, or altitude changes. For those of you who raced Hell's Loop T.T. and thought the elevation changes were radical -- Baker Grade to Death Valley to Panamint Springs -- STAND BY! This is going to be one tough extreme endurance -- perhaps the MOST extreme MSILSF race to-date. Why, you ask? Take a look for yourself:
South Lake Tahoe, CA Elevation: 6281 feet; Latitude: 38°.939926/Longitude: 119°.977186
Carson City, NV Elevation: 4693 feet; Latitude: 39°.163798/Longitude: 119°.767403
Reno, NV Elevation: 4526 feet; Latitude: 39°.529632/Longitude: 119°.813802
Truckee, CA Elevation: 5818 feet; Latitude: 39°.327962/Longitude: 120°.183253
Auburn, CA Elevation: 1239 feet; Latitude: 38°.896565/Longitude: 121°.07689
Placerville, CA Elevation: 1869 feet; Latitude: 38°.729625/Longitude: 120°.79854
South Lake Tahoe, CA Elevation: 6281 feet; Latitude: 38°.939926/Longitude: 119°.977186
Tahoma, NV Elevation: Unknown; Coordinates: Unknown
Incline Village, NV Elevation: 6438 feet; Latitude: 39°.249683/Longitude: 119°.952684
South Lake Tahoe, CA Elevation: 6281 feet; Latitude: 38°.939926/Longitude: 119°.977186
HOLY CRAP, BATMAN!

The pix is me in front of the Red Ball Garage, Manhattan, New York, May 4th 2013 awaiting the start of the race. Sorry to say I was a DNF after 2651.6 miles of WFO racing -- thanks to a self-destructing Leo Vince "ZX" Scoot Pipe and a catastrophic Malossi belt failure. Here's my post-race video: that kind of sums things up. I think I posted some pix of me and the Gilera at www.aesracingltd.com? The other scooter in the race, Stan Scott/Honda 250cc Helix, was 145 miles ahead of me when he too suffered exhaust and belt failures! The race was won overall by Ray Hixon/RS50 (70cc) Aprilia! Two racers, Bill Murar/Kawasaki 250cc Ninja and Deb Carter/Kawasaki 250cc Ninja tied for 2nd Place Overall. Further details at www.motorscooterlandspeedfederation.org. Cheers.

The revised entry list is attached for your perusal. Brock had seven "teams" finish in 1971. I attribute the modest number of entries to our "one rider/one scooter" Rule. It probably gave a lot of wanna-bees a harsh reality check about their skill set and the level of preparedness required for our event. Please Note: The Real Cannonball, sanctioned by Motor-Scooter International Land-Speed Federation, is not affiliated with www.scootercannonball.com, an 8-day timed/scored rally in which " articipation is limited to scooters with an engine displacement not more than 250cc" held in even numbered years. MSILSF Vice-President, Capt. Lew Laurito, has once again opened his wallet and posted an additional US$500.00 prize money to be awarded to the winner of Class II (101cc to 175cc). This brings the total prize money to US$2,500.00!Attachments:

Yep. $200 bucks for winning a class -- plus $1,000 for finishing 1st overall. A lousy $1,200 -- and a couple of trophies. Probably better to run the "other" event, take your time crossing, sleep in a warm bed in your jammies every night, receive nothing regardless where you finish and, best of all, pretend you're racing. Whatever spins your crank.
