The carb may be tricky as these scoots have shipped with different carbs. www.bmsmotorparts.com/product_info.php//products_id/1282 is our current favorite supplier but it will be more expensive. Hardest part for you will identifying your current carb if you want the very same model. Did you every get a model or part number off your carb? Does it look exactly like the one from the above link?

To be fair, speedracer is asking about the Burgman 400 in particular. The B400 is just as easy to work on as a Chinese 250, the biggest mechanical difference being fuel injection instead of carb. It will ride and handle smoother, vibrate less, have more power while still being agile, and just about never break down. It's still a Chevy vs. Cadillac comparison.

I was looking at the clearance on mine yesterday since I have everything off it and have a very clear view of the clearance between tire and engine. I didn't measure it but the old carpenter in me said it was about 3/4", no less, maybe a hair more. I took a picture too if you want to see it. I can also get an actual measurement if you want. Mine has the 130/60/13 tire, though it is getting worn now, at 5k. I'll need to replace it soon.

You said it wouldn't go past 55mph, that would be an awful lot of tire drag to hold it back. I would think that tire would be *smoking* and showing major signs of damage if it was rubbing enough to keep you from going past 55. Now I know not to go with the larger size though, heh.

With rear plastic off the scooter, you can see the 4 attachment points. 2 screws at the bottom and the top 2 are the hard plastic into soft rubber o-ring type things, same as you have around the headlights. Need to remove the 2 screws and then wiggle the rest of it out. On mine one side just about fell out, the other took a fair amount of wiggling to get it to pop out. Attachments:

I use the Castrol 4T 10w40 oil in my Vog. It takes exactly 1-1/2 quarts. (It's actually 1.4L or 5.92 cups or 47.34 ounces, but 6 cups is 1-1/2 quarts). Heh. I just buy 3 quarts at a time and I know I'm good for 2 oil changes. When you take out that big drain plug, a cone shaped screen should come out with it, if it doesn't, reach a finger in there and pull it out. I let mine drain for an hour because I like to get as much of the old stuff out as I can, or I will waste a little bit of fresh oil and pour just a bit into the filler while the drain is open to flush it a bit.
For the gear lube I use Mobil 1 LS 75W-90 - (.25L or 8.45 ounces)
I have 2 plastic measuring cups I keep in the garage for this, along with skinny funnels that will fit in both filler holes.

Print out the pictures Todd posted, it'll help in matching up a new one. Those look to be coarse thread. I hope to have my scooter running by 6pm local time Saturday, I figure I'll need it to maneuver around all the zombies that will be walking the streets after the rapture.

Thread pitch is also an issue, coarse, regular, fine, etc. The typical 'regular' metric standard I think is 150. If you have an Ace Hardware nearby, you can buy some bolts and see how they work. They'll happily take back what you don't use or need.

Todd, if you haven't figured this out already, there is an access panel you can remove from underneath to access the rear lights. I can explain and/or post a picture or two to show you.

I don't have a remote starter or alarm. There is no separate headlight switch other than the high beams and passing switch controls on the handler bars. I will recap what I have done.
Everything disconnected from the front end of the wiring harness, that means headlights, instrument panel, ignition switch, CDI, rectifier, diode, left and right handle bar controls, signal flasher, horn, fan.
I pulled all the crappy electrical tape off of every wire bundle, inspected the full length of each wire from the spade type connector to the point where it enters the plastic tube to go to the back of the scooter. Inspected every spade connector, both halves of the connection. For every spliced wire I took the tape off and checked the crimped connections, they were all crimped good and tight, then re-taped them. No issues found with any wires or connections. Inspected the fuse box and the wires going into it. All looks good. There are 3 15a fuses and 1 10a fuse. The 10a fuse must control the lighting circuit because the lights go out when I pull that fuse.
There are some more harness connections on the right rear, where you guys with the 250b's have your cdi, rectifier, and diode. (The Vog has all three of those located up front) These connections all look good.
The only thing I have not inspected at this point is the tail light. I have to remove all that plastic surrounding the seat box to get to those connections. That is the only plastic still on the scooter. I wonder if there is a second diode back there...
I've also wondered if having an open connection could do this, so I've reconnected everything up front and even switched a couple of things that use the same type of connectors even though the number of spades used or color of the wires is different. Nothing helps.

The ignition switch is disconnected, it's not even in the loop. Everything is disconnected, even the horn and fan. Everything but the fuse box and rear lights.

Rectifier looks to be grounded ok. Thing is the rectifier isn't even connected right now. Everything is disconnected, all wiring to controls, CDI, rectifier, diode, etc. Instrument panel is off the scooter, as is the headlight assembly, and everything else. The only thing connected right now is the fuse box up front, and the rear lights.
