Yes, ordinarily it would have to be at a certain temperature. However I thought GM had rewired his for a manual switch to better control the temperature. Come to think of it I may have confused that with somebody else. But yes, the thermoswitch has to be closed to complete the circuit in a OEM scooter. Hey, maybe that's part of the problem. So GM, did you rewire your bike for the fan to come on manually? If not, are you sure that's the fan coming on?

Good Morning Ladies and Germs. Welcome to my world. A place where OEM never existed. LOL
When I got the bike, it had already been frankensteined. The radiator had been rewired directly to the fusebox for some reason. I'm guessing the temp switch was bad and instead of replacing it, they simply bypassed it. I know it's the fan because I disconnected it to check and the fan did not come on and the bike began to overheat.
I'm so praying that it's not the ignition switch since I just replaced that and it's a major pain to get to. There is a bypass diode installed to allow the battery to be charged since the Reg/Rec was bad. Could be it blew, but I don't think that's it since even if it went the bike would still start.
It's looking to me like the fusebox is the culprit, or an internally blown wire from the battery.
Just getting my eyes to stop rebelling against the light so when I get out there in a bit, I'll make some meter checks and let you all know what I found.
I think I'm going to paint the name "Frankenbike" on the side of it.... Right next to a mini A-bomb explosion.... LOL

Oh, and half the wiring harness has been replaced. It had a meltdown just before I got it and the shop had re-wired a big chunk of the harness. I know the shop owner and he does quality work. The bike was mis-represented to me when I got it, but hey, you win some, you get shafted some.

Wellllll......
First thing I metered the battery. I read an incredible 1.9v Then just for kicks, I metered the battery to fusebox. 1.9v Turned on the ignition and got 0.0v
I'm not getting happy here... But I pulled the battery and its on the charger now.
I think it may be time for me to write a song....

Odd. The charger said the thing was fully charged but the meter says it only has 8.9v Brand new battery went bad?
Good news is that I put it on the bike and it tried to come to life. Fan came on very slowly... Clock came on, lights were screamingly dim, but they tried... Battery issues. Who'd a thunk it. Back on the charger. Maybe I can rehab this thing.

Take it to a place like batteries plus and they can test the battery and tell you if it's bad. It sounds like it's not accepting the charge which means it's toast. Rich

Easiest fix since I had to put gas in this stupid thing... But inexpensive? Not in Hawaii. Here anything that takes more than 2 square millimeters in space or weighs more than one tenth of an ounce has a $80 shipping fee attached to it.
Battery = $60 at Wally World where the Wayouts go. Shipping, handling, touching, looking at it, Freight, Boxing, Inspecting, and any hidden charges... = Unknown.

I'm just impressed how Cyborg hit that nail on the head. Good going big guy. We all overlooked a battery popping. It was too easy.

Don't stop there. Check that "custom" wiring for a small power draw with the ignition off. Lead acid batteries don't like to be drawn down and recharged frequently. It may still start with the battery low but it's plates are getting warped and will eventually fail. The smaller the battery the more likely the damage. Best wishes.

Yep. I did go thru the wiring. It's good. The clock was draining it and one reason I don't like clocks on a bike.
BUT... I worked the battery on and off the charger all night and when I put it in just a few mins ago, it fired right up. YEEHAWWW!!!! I'm going riding. Chat you fellers L8r.

YEAH BABY!!
I got in 2 hours of good riding. Man do I feel good.
I have a blown headlight though and my right brakes are leaking thru the sight glass. Those things are useless anyway. Who designed such a flaw into the system?
I can live with the bad light for now, but I'm kind of upset that it blew as new as it is. Bummer. Oh well.
Gotta go clean the bugs outta my teeth. LMBO! (Old bikers will understand)

There's a biker folks, two hours on the steed and he's all grins with bugs in his teeth, leaking brake fluid, and a sorry arse headlight, he's still grinning. Two wheels are two wheels, big engine, small engine, doesn't matter, you drift into another world. By the way, turn the music and intercoms off when you're riding because the DOT says you...ah ha ha HA HA HA!! Who cares about that? That machine should be talking to you and you should be saying "yeah baby". Listen to your baby, it has a lot to tell you, and it is infinitely entertaining. Rich

I have a speaker set already mounted but I haven't used it since I yanked the radio. That radio SUCKED! It would only pick up a polka station. Polka 24/7. ARGHHHHHH! So, I've got a nice handlebar radio I can mount and hook into the speakers. Hmm..... Bike Audio
