Right after I started riding I saw what happens to a foot and toes when you put foot down at speed with out shoes. A guy showed up at a bike shop with the top half of his foot ground off and bleeding.

I know it's probably hot but no excuses. In a group ride with people of mixed experience levels a multi-bike pile up can happen in an instant. I wear my leather jacket on even the hottest days with jeans and gloves.

There has been some great scooter clubs riding lately looks like a lot of fun. I saw the video of luke looks like he was smiling and having a great time.

The one that bothered me the most was the guy with his kid behind him in shorts and t-shirt. As adults, we're supposed to be the smart ones.

And when one of the geniuses get hurt bad or killed in an accident all the cute little catch phrases boil to the surface,,, two wheeled terror,,, death machine,,, and my all time fave,,, murdercycle,,,, all conjured up by ignorant non informed misguided cowards that never rode a bike in their lives,, and are terrified at even the thought of riding one,,, idiots,, but these are the same moronic jerks who are sitting in our voted offices,, passing judgement without a brain to split between them in the room,,,, so you get helmet laws seatbelt laws airbags ect adnauseum,,,when was the last time you saw an airbag in a racecar,,,? Where it matters and we get to thank the clowns that have the speedo flipflops tanktop and soupbowl helmet to thank,,,, I was on the freeway and hit a patch of oil from a semi ,,, flying at speed sideways left foot planted dirt track style baby,,, you would have been proud of me ,,,, till I ran out of oil,,, then I folded up like a cheap suitcase,,,down I went,,, wore a hole in the side of my helmet the size of a baseball,,, leathers jeans and good boots all gone,,, BUT.. I walked away with barely a scratch,, the worst bruise was to my ego,,, and then my wallet,, cause I wadded the beast

Yep,,, just ask FACE,, he had a get off on his scoot,, it ain't fun, and the dummies that have no gloves no sturdy shoes/boots decent helmet ( and they dont have to be expensive either) are begging for heap big trouble,, think about your foot getting into a wheel,,,,that should be enough

Sadly, you all are preaching to the choir. I would guess that at least a couple of those riders actually have slide gear at home. But it would be totally uncool to show up in it for a rally like this. And really, which would you rather have? Skin and non-broken bones, or a cool image? Besides, chicks dig scars...

Went down in Marietta Georgia in the 70's on a Beemer R80. It was about 900 degrees and the road looked oily from the heat. Turned out it was actually oily from a spill. A guy cut in front of me and I swerved....boom...I was down on the slick. Went off backwards and reflex grabbed the throttle. The bike accelerated and stood up...and down...and up...and down...etc.... until I stopped in a ditch. NO ONE stopped to see If I was OK laying in the ditch. That's when I realized I hated Marietta and uncaring jerk cagers. Even though it was hot as hell I had on thick jeans, boots, a long sleeve shirt, and a 3/4 helmet. I was bruised but no road rash and I rode the damaged bike home. I never, EVER, went out again without at least long pants and usually a long shirt. I haven't been down since and that day still is in the back of my mind every time I hit the start button. Like KZ says, pretend they can't see you, and I say, flash the brights at them, who cares if you make them mad, you stay off of the pavement. Rich

That SUX. Reminds me when I got stuck in a snowstorm in Michigan. Had to ride, I had to be there or forfeit a ton of cash for a job I did.

Was crusing on the road on a GL1100 and hit a patch of ice going over an overpass. Slid all the way across scared witless. All I could do was hold on and try and keep it right side up. Topped the bridge and saw a Cop car and 5 or 6 others crashed in the middle of the intersection at the bottom. Thought I was dead. I tried to turn and wound up sliding backwards towards them. Gunned the engine and managed to slow to a stop about 6 inches from the Cop car. Shut it off, got off and my legs collapsed. LOL Took about 15 mins for me to calm down enough to get back on and finish my trip.
