Hello guys, I'm new here and I didn't know how to search the forums to answer my particular question. I'm fixing up my scoot right now and I'm wondering what these this black thing does, and if it's hooked up right. Also there is this piece: It appears to be for my brake lever on the left hand side to turn my lights on when I pull the lever. Does anyone know where I can buy a new one? I've looked all over. Thanks for you help. Ps. I don't know how to resize images here, sorry if these are too big.

If I'm not mistaken, that canister is part of the EGR system. Throw it away and your scoot will run better. Bash has a diagram on how to fix it correctly so it's not just collecting gas to help your bike explode from a stray cig butt.

That canister is an EVAP system, you will find one hose going to the top of the GAS TANK it vents the gas tank and is operated by VACUUM.
The other part is your brake switch, what scoot do you have model year motor size etc.. They have many types of brake switchs so knowing the year, model and motor of the scoot helps locate the right parts.

Anytime you have the two tubes sticking off of the bottom it is a canister for the Evap Vapor Recovery System (are you a Seinfeld hand model?).
This is how it hooks up:
This is how you get rid of it:

Guitarman, what will throwing it out do to help it run better? It will lighten the load on the bike by a couple of pounds of useless stuff.

Okay I'll do that. Can you tell me what exactly makes it useless? And thanks again for your help.

Welcome to the sight globe bashan is pretty stinkin noledgable about scoots. I would take his advice he's had several and has a modified one without any body panels to fix arising problems. again to the sight people are pretty good about communicating on this sight pretty active sight.
