I know you never said you kept cranking it's a given, the solenoid contacts inside got partially welded and stuck got to hot with constant voltage and especially with a weak battery, things get hot really quick to much resistance.

John makes a good point about the brake lever. Alley is exactly right and you need to swap that solenoid out and throw the old one away. If it stuck once it will stick again. Also, FYI I'm sorry but your bike is not popping 60 unless it's larger than 150ccs or it's heavily modified. Chinese speedos are horrible, they often read 15 off. Take a GPS with you, you'll probably see 55 MPH top end.
