So, since I'm going to fix this beast, (244cc) I might as well do some basic upgrades on it. Different air filter, bigger jets... What basic things should I be doing to get the most from it?

depends on what kind of money you want to spend,,,the less expensive route is an airbox mod freeflowing air filter rejet and a free flow pipe,,,and less noisey ones also do the job if the authorities are bad about that thing,,,,i would think you can pull it off for well under 150 bucks, and a noticable difference in the power and an added bonus of a little more rumble out of the thing so it doesn't sound like you're ridin a sewing machine

I'm so tight with money I squeak....
Anyway.. LOL I planned on getting rid of the silly Evap system, replacing the air filter and re-jetting. I already have a straight pipe so volume is never a problem.
I'm looking at a CDI that has no rev limiter.
Down the road, I'm thinking a new Dr. Pulley set of weights, slide and variator, and a new belt of course.

I do not believe your CDI is rev limited, they only put those on the 50cc jobs to keep them 30mph rides which do then do not need a license. So do not waste your squeaky change on a CDI.

Ok. WHEW! Just had a MAJOR breakthru with the paitent. I started taking the plastics off and got down to a point where I could start to see what was going on. But there was all this oily dirty nasty stuff hanging around in there. Did some major surgery and removed the life sucking EVAP tumors. Once I got it out of there and re-routed some hoses to make sure the vacuum was getting where it needed to be, I found that I could actually see in there and discovered what is really going on! So, after fixing the hoses that are actually needed, I saw this: Can someone please tell me what each of these thingies are? What are the hoses doing coming from the top of the cylinder to the CVT air filter? (number 1) What is the chrome screw for? (number 2) What is this little chrome pipe for? (number 3) I found that I can actually SEE the head and the valve adjusters, and the plug... It's SO not where I thought it was going to be... I then came around and looked at my Reg/Rec. It's way bigger than I thought. Next to the Reg/Rec is this small star shaped thingy. I think it's some kind of blocking diode but I'm not sure. It has 2 connectors on it and it's what caused my battery not to charge. So where do I get one? Found the coil hidden on a part of the frame. So, I might need a new CDI, I know I need the star thing, and I need a new air filter for the carb. Something that doesn't wrap around the engine and hide it from view! I bet this bike runs so much cooler now because it will have some air flow over the engine now. Comments? Questions? Know where I can find the parts I need?

Andy asked me to look at this so I hope I don't come off as intrusive. Here is a excerpt from my Fashion thread on the pics board:
While I was removing pollution devices I thought I'd take the vapor canister off. I repaired a V5 once that quit because of this system, I thought I'd do a preemptive strike. Here is the beast in it's natural lair:
Here it is flushed from hiding with it's anatomy revealed:
The idea is that the vacuum from the airbox draws vapor off of the gas tank when the vac valve opens. The problem is the check valve lets gas through if the bike tips over, or sometimes the canister gets plugged. When this happens you lose your tank vent and the bike stalls.
To remove the system you remove the vent tube from the check valve and run it up higher than the tank with an old gas filter on the end to keep dirt out:
Then you plug the tube to the airbox with a cork. It's vital to also plug the vac tubes:
The big vac line you see runs to the fuel pump:
Speaking of the airbox I've had a few members ask what the smaller air filter is:
For some reason CF Moto, or Honda I guess, decided to filter the air into the CVT....go figure. Also here you can see the attachment for the vapor canister hose that must be plugged:
The airbox is your typical Chinese traffic jam with the crankcase vapors collecting in the reservoir. You've got to periodically empty it via the tube with the stopper:
If you don't the oil starts coming up into the carb intake tube:
When you reaseemble everything you can see how the air filter for the CVT fits into the cover:
#1 is your crankcase breather. It's a very typical design through the valve cover which communicates with the case via the cam chain tunnel. It needs to be patent! Before you took the flame thrower to everything that hose dumped vapors into the reservoir designated by the purple color in the above pic. You could tie that hose off high with a filter because it will spew some oil.
#2 is your timing inspection port. Take it off and look in there, you'll see what's going on. #3 is the oil pipe. It carries oil up to the valve cover and sprays oil all over the place in the valve cover.
Now the diode is part of the design for the Reflex clones. Jack is the fact for this area of expertise' but yes, the diode protects the battery from reverse flow and forces electrons in the proper direction for charging. A bum diode can disrupt charging. Rich

Can I route the case vent back into the oil pan somewhere? Or just put a filter on it to keep the oil from flowing all over the place? Where do I get the diode? Who is Jack? Not sure if I've met him yet. All I have left to do on that mod is to make sure the gas tank vent is taken care of. Now, I know I need a new jet, maybe... what would be a good jet for Sea level to 2000 feet? I travel between those two altitudes almost daily. I'm looking at this: Air UpgradeAny idea on what jet I should use?

Just tie it off higher than it's source and put a filter on it to keep dirt out of the system. If you hook it to the oil pan and have an airtight seal you'll negate the venting properties of the breather.
Make sure the tank vent is open with a filter on it and plug the vac connection.
I'm not sure what you're trying to do with the jet. I just always check the plug and go with how it's running to figure out air/fuel. I've got a box I use with several holes drilled in it. I use it as an air filter box and tape over and uncover holes until it starts running like I want it. Then I approximate the air hole space on the airbox I'm going to use on the final version and it's usually spot on or just needs a little tweaking.

I've got to have some kind of air filter, so I'm looking at the one I linked above. I keep hearing that when you upgrade your air flow, you also need to size up your carb jets. And it comes with new jets. So, I wonder what size I need.
I bet I need to go and see what I have in there now and then go up from there. But how far up?
Got it on the crankcase vent.

GLAD YOU ASKED THIS QUESTION! This will introduce you to JACK: WHO IS JACK SCHITT? For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt? We find ourselves at a loss when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt'! Well, thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual way. Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, who married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They had one son, Jack. In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt. Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt Sherlock. Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with a rather nervous disposition named Chicken Schitt. Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens nuptials. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Horse. Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt. Now when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt', you can correct them. Sincerely, Crock O. Schitt

Looked thru all the tiles above and could only find the diode at Absolutely Scooters. So I ordered it from them. Now to get an air filter.
Well, I'll go pull the carb tomorrow and find out what size jets I have in it already. I'm adding a fair amount of air, so I'll need to go up maybe 2 sizes.
