No shocks will not fix the shimmey on the wheels,you need stablizer bars like he put on to keep the wheels from moving in and out.

Well I think I've found my problem. And thanks Cyborg for makin' me check the steering shaft and joints for play 'cause once I get goin' into something(and especially if I start gettin' frustrated), I sometimes can't see the forest for the trees. So sure, I've gotta redo the wheel alignment but before anything else I locked the handlebars straight and checked for play in the steering...





No, I wasn't workin' on the ceiling, stupid video is upside down and couldn't figure out how to flip it on photobucket. But as you can see I'v got a lot of play in the steering. Turns out it's the lower steering shaft u-joint where all the slop is.





Sooooo, I guess I'm gonna have to get another one from Sunny unless someone knows of an aftermarket source for a higher quality one.
Figures something would go wrong after I finally got the fuel gauge workin' and she was near trouble free.

Would measure shaft diameters and spline count ,, you may get lucky with a atv replacement from honda or yamaha or any of the big 4.... I would still consider an inexpensive damper,,, this sector style of steering arrangment lends itself to what's called " bump steer" and you can feel every little thing in the bars ,,, good for quick steering but very sensitive and can be a little overly twitchy,, after the joint gets replaced a damper will quell all the little vibrations and twitches that get amplified by the steering links and get transmitted into the bars

If plan comes together will have her back together this weekend. Got a new high quality u-joint on line and a guy at work is gonna cut the shaft off the old joint and weld it onto the new one. Then I've just gotta get the alignment right and she'll be trouble free... (did you actually buy that?)

Here's a couple pics of the new and improved lower steering shaft with the new u-joint welded on. The welding was done by a young mechanic from the Subaru dealership where I work who also has his own shop. He did a really nice job with the welding.





I slipped it on to size it up and it's perfect. Will fully install and hopefully get the alignment right tomorrow. I'll post the results...sure hope this gets rid of the shakes(although I have been enjoying riding my motorcycle the last couple of days--at least that's one thing I've got that's trouble free!)
