Hi Guy's could someone please tell me what Power im running AC/DC.
It's a sachs sx1 50cc with a Jog 90cc engine the side lights come on when engine is turned off but main headlight's won't work intill i start the bike.
Aswell does anyone know what voltage should be coming from the stator because i have a weak spark changed stator, leads and checked grounds.
Aslo whats R/R stand for in bike lingo
cheers Liam 2 stroke 50cc

R/R = regulator rectifier . Your head lights get powered from the stator when the engine is turning .

John is exactly right. If your headlights come on when the bike starts up they are powered by AC from the stator usually via a yellow wire. That does not mean your have an AC system. Actually I don't like the terms AC system and DC system, they are misleading terms. Every stator makes AC voltage, that's all they do. The AC wires run to a R/R (regulator/rectifier) where voltage is rectified to DC for the battery and the system voltage is regulated to 12 volts. SOME systems use a three phase stator that has three yellow wires to the R/R and all of that AC input is rectified to 12v DC. Then the whole bike, including all of the lights, run off of 12v DC. Those systems I feel should be called three phase, 12 volt CDI system. But the terms AC system and DC system refer to how the CDI gets it's voltage. Here's a pic of your CDI and the function of each pin:
When 12v DC supplies the power port with 12v DC from the ignition it is called a DC system. But that is only the power to the CDI and can be very misleading. When the power port receives AC voltage from a red/black wire from the CDI it is called an AC system but that is only the power to the CDI. But that can be...well you know. For instance, my wife's bike has a AC CDI but has a three phase stator that supplies the R/R with AC and the bike runs off of DC. That should be three phase, AC CDI. If your stator is singe phase with a yellow and white wire the system should be called single phase, AC CDI. But the common terminology now is if your CDI gets it's power from the battery it's a DC system and if it gets it from the stator it's an AC system.
