My wife has a 2008 Lance Vintage with 360 miles on it. When I try to start it ,it will run for about 3 seconds then die. After several attemps I decided to pull the carb off and do a through cleaning to the carb.It still did the same thing so I took off the electric choke and coverd the hole with my finger and it started and ran perfect. So i figured it was a bad choke and orderd a new one.I installed the new choke today and nothing. The same issue. Any one have a clue?

Thanks for the response.I have done a valve adjustment.Sorry for not including that.I have not ran it long enough to let it warm up with my finger covering the choke area.It does run as if the choke is fully engaged with my finger covering the eleclectic choke port.Sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology.I put a micrometer to it and the chock in the cold position is .2800 when running it is at .1900.I'll try it tomorrow and let it warm up and give you a more informative answer.

Well It has to be the Choke, if you cover the hole with your finger and it then gets enough gas to idle up. So check your choke and see if the needle is retracted or extended. When cold the needle should be Retracted. As it warms up it should Extend to block off the hole.
Take the choke off and lay it on its side and get a marker and mark the needle at its base. Then put your finger on the choke and start it and let it warm up for about 5 minutes and watch the needle where you marked it. If the mark extends out the choke is working if it didn't move it could already be extended and is NOT retracting. So shut the engine off and just let it cool off then come back later and see if the mark you put on it is still in the same place if it is then the needle did not retract and its stuck in the extended position and thats your problem. If the needle retracted the mark will then not be visible in that case your choke is working. It could also be the connections where you plug it in maybe a wire came out of the female plug and the choke is not getting any voltage. Alleyoop

The plunger only comes out about 3/16" of an inch, not much, so mark carefully. Also, another way to check it is to unplug it and take it off the bike. Hook it up directly to a 12V source, I used my scoot battery with an SAE battery charger connection, polarity does NOT matter. It will get warm in a few minutes and the plunger will slowly come out if working correctly. Make sure, as they said before, the plunger is set straight in the device, it can get cocked. Also, if you have a multimeter, you can check the resistance, it should be 10-20 ohms, if the circuit is open, it's a bad choke. Here's a video:

Ok, I finally had some free time today. When the enricher is cold it mic's out 2.822 when hot 2.985. I have adjusted the valves. Still the same thing. As long as my finger is over the hole where the enricher slides into it runs perfect. After a few minuts of running when I place the the enricher back onto the carb and it dies.I have also done a detailed cleaning of the carb. At this point it will only run with the enricher out and the hole coverd.

I had to richen it up quite a bit. I believe I had it out like 3 1/2 turns Counter Clockwise but then the screw is about to vibrate out. As a matter of fact it did vibrate out on me when I was curising doing around 40-45 in traffic. All of a sudden it started to sputter and die on me. Got back home and sure enough the Air/Fuel Mixture Screw vibrated out. Lucky for me it fell in the grove where the starter is so I fished it out as well as the spring and put it back in and put some Silicone on it to keep it in place.
So you are running Very Lean richen it up and you should be fine. But you might just take your time and adjust it properly:
Turn it out until you get the HIGHEST RPMS: Then you will most likely have to adjust your Idle down turning the Idle Speed Screw Counter Clockwise to get the idle down where its the smoothest. The Idle Speed Screw is the one with the Sping on the side where your throttle cable connects. Alleyoop

For some reason even after the scooter warms up if I take my finger off the hole and stick the enricher back on the scooter dies.It wont stay running for me to find an adjustmen. The enricher is working properly.A new carb is only 34.00 so I figure what the heck. Thanks for the responses. This site is a true value.
