Bashan, I'd like to see the ACTUAL wiring diagram of the regulator and the cdi, for that matter. The wiring diagram is not complete without them. What's the big secret inside those components? You might want to inform everyone that Tsunami Bike in Canada is acting weird. Call there published number and you get a FAX whine. No response to email either. Methinks they are in trouble. For those interested, the same manual choke kit can be obtained here. www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=53009&CategoryID=2&PartsectionID=26Cheers,

Well here's a DC CDI:
The rectifier part of the R/R is pretty simple, I drew that out once, you can read about it starting on this page.
The regulator part is more complex, here's a simple diagram of both stator and R/R:
But I don't see how it matters. Three's three yellows off of the stator that carry AC voltage to the R/R where it's converted to DC. Off the R/R is the red to the battery and up to the ignition is the black. The other one off of the stator is the blue trigger which is seperate from the charging circuit. Sometimes a three phase will also have a red/black AC magneto coil feed which can be used on an AC CDI or simply taped off and sits unused. Does it matter what the complex internal wiring is? That is something to ponder on cold winter nights. They do what they do and just use the wires correctly. I'm all about functionality but sometimes delving too deep too soon can get in the way of getting things done. JMO, Rich

I really appreciate the circuit diagrams of the CDI and Rectifier/Regulator. This makes everything easier to understand from a troubleshooting point of view for those of us without tons of experience with these things as you summarized in your last paragraph.
It's stuff like this that make this forum valuable.

Bill, that was rude of me, I'm sorry, that came off wrong because I was in a hurry. I just meant that once everything is sorted out then it wouldn't hurt to look inside the component to see what is in there. When trying to diagnose and repair something it's best to look at what the component does and then one can look at how it does it later. That came off poorly and I apologize...I can be a buffoon at times. Rich

Rich,
Hey, you provided the best info I've seen yet and I really appreciate it. Not knowing anything about motorcycle electrical systems, I can't look at mine and tell which kind it is just from the wiring. That's what makes this forum so valuable. It's like flying. Dangerous if you don't know what you're doing and how it works. No big deal if you do.
It ain't no thing if you get in a hurry. Most of us are peddling as fast as we can already.
