Why does my scooter bogs down at full throttle? By zomgos (Read 8,310 times)

Hello everyone,



I'm new to the forum and new to the scooter niche and I was hoping someone can help me out!



So recently, I purchased a non running 2004 VMOTO Milan scooter off of craigslist, it wasn't running and had no battery when I purchased it. I think it was in an accident since it was pretty busted up, all the plastics was cracked and front right side was missing a piece. The scooter was sitting outside for a while.





I took off the old air box since it was broken and dirty, currently it does not have an air box. Purchased a new air filter currently in transit. CARB currently does not have any kind of air filter on it.



It doesn't have both side plastics on at the moment.





Put a new spark plug

put a new battery

Changed the gasoline (The gas I put in was sitting in my garage for about 6 months. )

changed the 2 stroke oil

adjusted the idle screw

added some crab/fuel injector cleaner to the gas

even changed the transmission oil, took out old oil and put in 10w 30



Scooter runs now, and I can take it to full throttle when it's on the stand, without anyone sitting on it.



When it has a load on it or when i sit on it, it bogs down at full throttle after 40 kph. I weigh 180 lbs.

Also it does not seem to go past 40 KPH, or about 21 MPH, it bogs down even at half throttle, always around 40 kph no matter if I am going uphill or down hill.





also it is leaking engine oil from the right side from the bottom of the fan

it also leaks gasoline heavily 30 minutes after turning it off from the carb overflow tube.

Muffler also smokes and smells of something burning after turning it off





Vmoto milan and the tng Venice scooters are identical in engine design, and i think there are manufactured by the same scooter company in china. I don't have a milan manual, but I did find a 2004 TNG Venice manual.

On the TNG manual it says scooter is restricted to 2HP, derestrcted it has 4hp.



Does anyone know how to restricted it?



So I gave all available information and tried to be descriptive as possible; does anyone know why the scooter bogs down? Can someone please help me trouble shoot it?

It is bogging because of no air filter or air box, to much air and not enough fuel.
Is this a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? If it is leaking oil by the fan I assume it is a 4 stroke and if so then it could be the right crank seal that is leaking or the side plate not tight.

Hello and thank you for your post,

This is a 2 stroke scooter, it is Vmoto Milan 49 cc

Yes I just looked it up expect it to only do around 30mph if that. So the oil your seeing has to be coming from the oil pump behind the plate if it has one or is the oiling going to the carb? Need a picture of the carb that is on there and some pics around the carb area to see what kind of setup is on that puppy. But the bogging is mostly due to no air filter it is just sucking in to much air.

Just did what you said to do.

Added the stock air box back for now and the stalling problem stopped.

As for the oil leak, I'll take some pics tomorrow when I have time and post here.

Also the carb is still leaking gas from the overflow tube.

Sounds like the float is stuck or needs it be adjusted. The bike is almost 11 years old has been sitting and has been ran without an air filter. Perhaps its time for a new carb?
