You beat me to it Jerry, I was just going to say that he is running lean and also probably loosing some power to boot. Also hard starting wears out the battery and starter. Alleyoop

It seems simple.. just turn the screw shown on the diagram. I did however drive the scooter for a total of 40+ minutes while it was lean.. should that be a big problem? I will do the fuel thing today. I haven't driven the scooter since Friday.

Nah, if it got too hot it would have started chuffing and loosing power. Once you get it dialed in you could check your compression and make sure you didn't hurt the valves for your own peace of mind.

I have unscrewed the screw a little and I can't really tell a difference, it's still hard to start first time, but I think it should be fine.

My other problem (that I can live with) is that the scooter dies at an idle.. I would start it (which takes a little work) then I would drive and if I get to a stop I always rev a little it while braking because I'm scared of it turning off.. someone said something about an idle screw when I googled the issue... I dont know what or where that is. Help?

If it dies and or wants to die AFTER the motor is nice and hot Then the problem is your Valves are tight and need to be adjusted. What is happening is your valves are not closing completely and the motor is loosing compression and will not hold low RPMS and that is why it dies. But If you want to try setting the idle a little higher here is where the IDLE SPEED SCREW is on your carb: Turning it CLOCKWISE raises the IDLE and COUNTER CLOCKWISE LOWERS THE IDLE. Alleyoop

Alleyoop I went to go do this, and had all my tools ready.. I wanted to start the scooter before I did this, and it didn't start. I feel like I am full of bad luck. I tried to do the cloth to fan thing and it didn't work.

Set your valves before you do anything else. What is the cloth to fan gambit?

Set your valves before you do anything else. What is the cloth to fan gambit? The bug's bunny guy told me to do it and it worked (read earlier posts). I just checked and I lost my spark, I have a spark, it starts, five minutes pass and no spark. I swear this is pissing me off!

Rich for cold starts he was not getting enough fuel and he needed it as soon as possible So I told him to BLOCK the AIR FILTER to cut off the amount of air. And yes he needs some TLC on that scoot to get it to run right.

Alley was talking about the air intake going into the carb. He wanted to see if your mixture was getting too much air. The fan is on the right side of the engine. Your symptoms are typically maladjusted valves. Set them at .004" intake and .005" exhaust. There are tutorials under engine in the library. Now, if you are actually loosing spark after running a while it is probably the pulse coil on the stator. There's tutorials under electricity in the Library. The other things that come to mind are the ignition coil and the CDI. Electricals tend to fail after a bit of use when they heat up.

I just changed the CDI and coil, I'll look at how to do the valves..

I think you are still too lean, follow Alleyoop 4TS Carb Tuning Guide all the way through, including the driving tests where you let off the throttle and adjust based on the response. Be sure to give the engine a full minute and a twist on the throttle after each adjustment to let it get used to the new setting. Note- Do this after setting your valves, or you will have to adjust again based on the changes in valve duration.

Then adjust the valves, then I can do the rest. Never again chinese, never again! As soon as this is fixed I'm selling it.
