I have a 1988 Yamaha Riva. It took me 7 tries to start it today. The first 6 times, all I got was a smooth humming sound. Please see video and give me your opinion..... youtube video of starting probem

Is that a 50cc or a 150+ cc motor? It sounds like a BENDIX not engaging if its a 50cc or if your scoot is a 150cc your starter clutch slipping.
Do you know if you have a Starter Clutch or Bendix in the CVT? Alleyoop

Yes it should fix the problem unless the gears are missing teeth which I doubt. Alleyoop

The manual calls for inspection ,,,hey look it over when you get it out it may just be dry and the one way clutch needs lube

Help me understand how it works. The starter clutch rotates which makes a roller bearing contact the camshaft until it starts?

The starter clutch is what's called a sprague clutch,,,,I would pull it and take a look inside,,,,it could be fried,,,or it may just be dry and sticking,,,,the replacement is only $100 but it may be fine,,,can't tell until you get a look at it
