I think you may be right. The springs are yellow, it takes a decent amount of RPM for the clutch to grab. Does this explain the engine dying when given throttle when it's cold?

The yellow springs are rated at 1.5K so normally a stock spring will engage the bell at around 2300 rpms so add 1500 to that and now they engage at around 3800 rpms almost 4K. No that does not explain the engine dying given throttle when cold, it means it needs more fuel so adjust the carbs AIR RATIO MIXTURE, on yours since it is a 2 stroke the AIR ADJUSTMENT screw is on the right near the AIR INTAKE. Turn that screw clockwise about 1/18 to cut off some air and see if it helps. Alleyoop here is the procedure on how to adjust your carb: scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/7678/2ts-carb-tuning

Perfect, that makes tons more sense; I'll adjust it tomorrow. When does concern me is that it only goes 37mph (5k elevation and I weigh 175lbs). It has performance exhaust and looks to have these supporting mods. Is that normal?

Mark your variator like this with a marker 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch and run it at Wide Open Throttle and then we can see how much of a mark is left and will tell us how high the belt is climbing in the variator. If not climbing near the edge then you can maybe get a little more top end out of it with just weights. Alleyoop

The fuel ratio screw should be right around where I pointed with the arrow. You should get a SPRAY CAN of carb cleaner and spray the carb down. You have an oil leak the top of your motor is full of oil. Now turning that screw clockwise takes away fuel Counter Clockwise allows more fuel. Before you start messing with it TURN that screw clockwise and count the number of turns before it stops DO NOT TIGHTEN IT the screw has a point like a needle and you do not want to break the point off JUST UNTIL it STOPS. Then turn it counter clockwise 1/2 turn more than what you counted Alleyoop

After examing the area extensively, I have yet to find a screw for the A/F, id there any other location it may be in?
