I wonder if vibration from the horn is working a bad connection.
Unplug the horn at the horn and see when you press the horn switch if it shuts off.

It doesn't shut off when the horn is unplugged and I press the horn button. But I will test it all again when new parts arrive and will keep you updated.

Horn switch or wire goig to it,,,, good call john!!! I'm thinking loose connection, the vibration from the noise the horn makes, causes the problem. I don't think the new parts are going to make a difference, unless you disturb the loose connection. John

But I have more than that one problem. The engine dying when honking is just one of them. The worse one is that I can't start. The spark fires only occasionally. Usually the first spark is the brightest and then it fades to non-existent.

So I exchanged the CDI for a new one today, and it works. I have some carburetor problems and difficulty starting, but the scooter works without dying. And I can honk without engine dying. Will see after a week or two if it is resolved by this. Thanks for all your help!

I thought about that too. Might be. It's a 10 years old Chinese scooter with 40 000 km (25,000 mi) on it so a lot of stuff is breaking down. But this was the first major hard to resolve problem since I have it. :-) Anyway, if something changes I will report here.
EDIT feb. 2018: Still running great. Must have been the CDI.
