I need help....got a 2001 Kymco zx50 scoot....was not cranked all winter and took off carb/cleaned got it to crank but it dies after a minute or so.spits and sputters cranks and then dies.won't idle just cuts off.The carb has petcock with no vacuum device just a straight line the previous owner installed. When I put carb back together set air and idle screws to previous setting when it was running before. Not sure if I have vac and oil lines connected right,I have three lines one for the oil tank and two vac lines that don't go anywhere.the carb is Keihin w/electric choke. When I took off choke if you look down in the orifice of carb there is odd shaped pc. of brass where the choke plunger should come to rest not sure but it does not look right.

Welcome to Scooter Doc, 79shortbed. Scoots do not run well, if at all, with open vacuum lines. One line most likely used to be attached to the old vacuum fuel valve which was removed by the previous owner. You should also have a vacuum line running to the air cut valve on the carb. This applies to 4 stroke engines and I think also to the 2 stroke. Block off any spares and see what happens. How about introducing yourself in the new members section? All 1300+ members would like to meet you.

Here is a link to a post in our tech section that explains where your lines should run. Cruiser is right, you cannot leave any vac lines open or you vacuum system is useless. Rich

Thanks for the response and info.I looked around and seen the linked info but really does not help me.I got a 2 stroke with a different carb setup.I will try to take some pics and post.I agree the various lines need to be hooked up or else plugged. Can I assume that none of them are a drain or vent like some motorcycles have? What about the choke issue should there be a small burred pc. of brass in the hole.It is not loose just laying there it is solid.Imagine if your looking down in the hole where the choke mounts there is a crescent moon shaped chunk on the edge of the hole where the pin goes into from the electric choke...I know this sounds odd.

That piece your talking about, is it part of the carb, maybe a piece broke off the Plunger on the Enricher. The enricher plunger should look like this: Alleyoop
