First off I want to thank everyone who convinced me to start using this site. After reading through alot of posts and useful information, I now have a dilemma of my own.
I can not keep my battery charged and I dont know where to start. I took my battery to Advanced auto and they said it was in great shape. I can charge the scooter all night overnight (it reads fully charged in the morning) and then ride it 110 miles non stop (From Buckhannon WV to Parkersburg WV) at about 60 mph and when I get to my destination I will turn the scooter off. I then immediately try to start it again and NOTHING, it's dead. I then have to charge it for about 5 minutes to get it going again. When I get home, the cycle repeats. Charge, ride, dead battery............
I can dismantle the plastics and I have access to a few tools. Can someone point me in the right direction on where to start?
Thanks, Chas

Are you sure it is dead and NOT something else. Does your scoot have a Volt Meter to show if the battery is charging when riding. It could be your Rectifier/Regulator that is not working and not charging. Look in the Tech Section ELECTRICAL, there is HOW-TO check if your Rectifier/Regualator is the culprit. Alleyoop

Well, I would assume its dead. It wont start unless recharged, LOL. But then again Im not an electricitan I will check out the Technical Section ELECTRICAL that you pointed me to and report back. Thanks

Am I going to get in trouble for posting on the 250 board? If the battery checked OK at the auto parts store your scooter must not be charging the battery on your ride. The best way to see if your charging system is getting juice to the battery is use a multimeter. Hook the red probe to the positive pole on the battery and black to black. This video shows the drill very well. Let us know how it comes out. Rich

Thanks for the video. Ill try it later. My brother has a ton of tools so Ill get his multimeter and give it a shot.
I have removed the plastics on the scoot to have access to the engine area. I notice there are 5 wires coming out of the top/rear of the motor. Are these the wires to the stator thats inside? It looks like these 5 wires go to various things on the scooter.
I have already committed myself to help out and be a donor if this forum actually gets my scooter operational again. This is my first time on here but there is a wealth of information.
Thanks, Chas

Welcome to Scooter Doc, Chas. What is the make and model of your scoot? Also, what color is it? Red, green, blue, black, white, silver, orange, burgundy, gray, pink, brown, and other colors besides yellow tend to be problematic. Just kidding.

Cruiser, Its a Red 2007 JCL250a. From the research I have done on here I have determined it is the MC54 clone with the Linhai clone engine. I hope this helps in answering your question.
Ive been away for a few days.
I have dismantled the plastics down to where I can see where the stator goes into the engine. There are 5 wires coming out of the top of the engine. I have also identified the r/r. Its on the right rear of the scooter attached to the frame. Now, my questions...... these 5 wires go to various places, including the r/r. How do I check the stator to see if its the culprit? I am told I need a multimeter(?), but which wire(s) of the 5 am i checking? What readings should they have? Also, how can I check the r/r? We are really close here guys. Electricity, ohms, resistance, is all a foreign language to me but if someone could give me the reading on which wire should read what and when, I think I can do it!! Thanks again in advance to everyone helping me get back on the road!

You're making it more complicated than it is at this point. The first thing you have to do is check the cable connections on your batttery and make sure they're clean. Then hook the multimeter up the the battery as I described previously. Set the multimeter for DC and within a 12v range unless it is an auto range which most of them are. Follow the video and see what the voltage is doing and check back. Rich

Good advice from Bashan, Chas. Too bad about red. Notice I had it listed first? Don't worry though we have ways of working around this. Let us know what you find out from your readings.
Chas, I hope you don't mind my messin' with you on the scoot color. My attempt at having fun is a way of depressurizing the brain from working with more serious posts.

Hi. I have a Roketa MC-13-250 . Charging issues. Where is that diode(ground transformer) located. I can jump start the scooter and all the lights work.I have tested the stator. The return to the battery is only 12.5. I have to charge the battery every time I stop it or carry a spare .The battery fully charged 13.45 then hooked up and running it will drop slowly. Any help muchly appreciated. ardy202

@ ardy202 I hope ur not jumping ur scoot off a car! Not a good idea I have blew some bulbs doing that with my old 150cc it had same problem, have u had ur battery tested? Could be a bad battery not holding charge? If its good then u need to start checking ur wires like the grounds and all plugs. I am betting its the R/R I changed the stator first on mine and turned out to be the cheaper part with the regulator causing my 150cc not to charge the battery. But get ur battery tested, and dont use a car to jump start. I heard u can do alot worst then just blow some bulbs I got lucky. If ur battery is good use the multimeter as described earlier to track down the issue.

I finally had a chance to get out and play with the multimeter. First, I had disconnected the battery, with the battery disconnected the battery itself read 12.9v.
I then hooked the battery up, with it hooked up, it read 12.9v, started the scooter and ran it for a few minutes and it decreased down to aprox 12.5. Turned it off and it slowly came up to 12.7.
I then started it up, and disconnected the positive battery cable and hooked up multimeter to the positive wire (not hooked to battery). It was bouncing anywhere between 4.4-4.7v. I revved the bike up to about 4000 rpm and the reading went up to 5.8v. I then idled the scooter and it went back down to the 4.4-4.7v range.
Obviously the scooter is not getting a proper charge. My questions;
1) What SHOULD the scooter be reading when I had the positive wire disconnected from the battery and i was getting the 4.4-4.7v? Is that where it should be getting the 14.5ish volts?
2) What do I do now to determine whats wrong?
Again, any and all help is appreciated!
