That's a good video. When the engine is stopped, the belt should be riding near the outer edge of the clutch pulley which means that the two halves of the clutch pulley are closed or closest together. The belt will be at the bottom of the variator pulleys which means they are furthest apart or open.

Great video. The clutch is cowed when off but theRe is much more space between the pulley and cover so I can see the spring. But it works the same but the belt flaps more. Thanks for all the great help also.

Get some big Channel Pliers and put a little rag on the ends so as not to scratch the pulley face and that works. Alleyoop

thanks i'll try that. also the bell looks purpled and if its off the belt is half way down in the pulley. how would I fix this if the parts look good, re grease them or replace the pulley bearings, or clutch?

I would say if it is not all the way up in the Clutch like shown in the pics that means the Variator is part way closed then also. I would start with Taking off the Variator and check to make sure the Rollers are in place. Also check to make sure that there is not binding going on on the clutch pulley.

I've noticed a rattling sound from the variator, so I assume the rollers are bad. but the clutch seems to have a knocking sound, unless its being caused by the variator.
