I have purchased a new impact wrench to remove the variator nut but it doesn't want to budge. Now I know everybody tells me that it's a normal thread but according to my Haynes manual some have a left hand thread depending on how the kickstart mechanism is configured, therefore unscrew clockwise. Basically I daren't try any more incase i do any damage. Any advice? by the way i have a 125cc 152qmi engine on a TGB304 sport.

Looking at page 53 of this manual it looks like the smaller TGB's use the LH thread on the variator nut. If you have the starter gear on the end of the crankshaft as shown, it would seem that you would have to go clockwise to remove the variator nut. I would think that you should have enough exposed thread, once the starter gear is removed, to determine which direction the thread runs.

Yes! Exactly what I was going to say. Get down on your hands and knees and look very closely at the threads. The slant on them will tell you which way the nut comes off. Sometimes these nuts are froze on there with locktite, especially if you see a yellow color over the nut. Use the impact cautiously even after you've determined which way the threads go. That shaft is the crankshaft and if you ruin that thread it's a giant PITA. Sometimes you have to heat the nut if it's really stuck and pop it with the impact. Try some penetration oil too. Good luck, Rich

If you ever have to pull the flywheel off the other side of the engine the nut is a right hand thread but the puller is left hand thead.
