I will add my 2 cents - check the connections for the wires coming into the CDI. I had all sorts of starting issues, then stalling issues, and it all got fixed when I saw a loose wire. And a very good $.02 that is Trailheadmike, always a valid consideration. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Tupperware air cleaners? Rich

Hey, I thought that was great. I've gotten to know the guy in my local autoparts store pretty well, and he tells me that you become a "real mechanic" when you figure out how to make things work for you, not just understand how they're supposed to work.

I knew you were just kidding, I was giving you a hard time. Hey, I've been a chiropractor for 30 years, believe me, I know how to take a ribbing. Rich

Thanks to all, I solved the problem!!! Turns out it was the pilot jet!!! When I ordered the intake manifold, spacer, and gaskets, I failed to mention that I ordered a new pilot jet which arrived yesterday. After installing the intake manifold and spacers it still didn't work. I really wanted to give up. So when the pilot jet came yesterday I didn't think that would work either, but I took the carburetor out once again and compared the old pilot to the new pilot holding it up to the light. I saw more light coming through the hole on the new pilot jet than the old jet so I was hopeful. I installed it and it fired up after a few tries. I warmed it up and adjusted the air/fuel mixture and idle then took it for a spin and it runs great. I assume something is stuck in the old pilot jet that just wouldn't come out with carb cleaner no matter how many times I've tried. Thanks to all for helping because I've now learned a lot more about troubleshooting!!!

I am so glad for you, it was a tough journey but you learned a lot and so did we. That's what forums like this are all about and it worked this time. Usually the pilot won't do that so that's one we need to keep in the memory banks. It must have been a manufacturing mistake and something was closed off beyond tolerances. Well get on that puppy and ride and let us know how it shakes out. If you want to send me some decent pictures I'll make your scoot the feature for a month with your repair story. It was a good idea to replace that manifold spacer anyway, if it had a crack in it it would have been a problem later on. Great job! Rich

Thanks Bashan, I'd love to send you some pics. You want pics just of the engine or do you mean the whole bike? Want me to post the pics here in the thread or another source?

We love pictures of anything you think is cool: engine, body, floorboards, instruments, badges, etc. If you're running good and they're not related to getting a tech problem worked out, post all you want on the Pics and Vids board. It's in the Doc's lounge category at the top of the site. Rich
