Hello Guys & Gals!
I am wondering, do the novelty helmets offer any protection at all? I know a DOT helmet is a lot better to have but just courious.
I am guessing anything to cover your head is better than nothing at all.
Thanks

I sure it'll help if you were to be hit in the head by a big ACME hammer by Wylee Coyotee.

don't take chances,,buy the DOT approved helmets...better safe than sorry. i knew of an asian actor who wears a fancy non DOT approved helmet, his motorcycle skid when he was tackling a flyover/skyway,,,apparently the skyway is being constructed, there was a steel bars that was sticking out from a newly constructed concrete slub....the steel bar penetrate his cheapo helmet and went through and through his skull....to make the story short...he died on the spot. a good reliable helmet will give you peace of mind too while riding...don't compromise your life with few more extra bucks.. good luck and ride safe!

If you're in a helmet law state they are not legal. If you're not in a helmet law state, do as you please. While I agree they will not be as much protection as a $500 helmet, they have to be better than nothing. I believe that a helmet's main purpose is to deflect rocks and debris from hitting you in the head as they fly down the road and not to save you in a wreck, no matter what people tell you. It is my contention that WRECKS and STUPIDITY (not necessarily your own) cause death and not cheap helmets. If you're driving 70MPH and hit a semi truck head on I don't care what kind of safety gear you're wearing you're still gonna look like a big bug squashed on his windshield.
