Hello, My name is Bryan and I live in Arkansas. Ive owned a "50cc Xtreme" for about 2 years now. I used to ride it all the time, but I ended up flipping it when a friend flipped off a driver and we got thrown into a 6 foot drop. The scooter ran afterwards, but I let it sit for a winter and the same friend "tinkered" with it and now it doesnt work. Ive been wanting to ride again and the wife wont let me get a motorcycle or bigger scooter so I'm going to try to make the most of what I have. Ive moved the scooter to a friends house to work in his shop. So far I know that that I need to replace the carburator, intake, filter, a few light bulbs, oil, battery, and gas. Right before I parked it I replaced the gas tank petcock bc it stopped letting gas through. I could never get the new one to work so I just gave up. Some of the other problems I know of is: The battery would never keep a charge. I dont know how the charging system works on scoots it could be as simple as a loose wire for all I know right now. The alarm system wont work b/c I took the horn off the scoot and it needs to be replaced. The body is crap, but its all plastic and Im going to school to learn how to weld so I might take it up there and weld a new body out of thin metal one of the bulbs on the headlights was out, and they were never very bright to begin with. If I could I'd like to upgrade to a HID setup. The kick start doesnt work bc the cover for it broke. Now that I can weld I might be able to fix it. but idk. The starter was making a weird noise last time I tried to use it. I cant remember what it looks like, but I have a parts scooter I might be able to take one off of. (parts scoot is a Honda sr50. Im pretty sure I blew the engine on that one.) Mirrors are ducktaped in place, the wreck took those out. Anyway my parts should be here in about a week and I can really get started on her then.

Wow Bryan, that's quite a story, very interesting and educational. I think we can all learn from this that flipping off while on a scooter is not a good idea. The same friend "tinkered" with your scooter and now it doesn't run? I must say, you are a loyal friend! It sounds like you'll be keeping us busy on the Clinic tech board when you start your repairs, just post under 50 to 200cc with any questions you may have. If you need any help getting around the forum just send me a PM. Have fun! Rich

Parts have started to come in I should have her running by sunday if all goes right. Has anyone ever put HID bulbs in their scooter? Many of the 250cc owners have done this upgrade, but they have DC powered headlights to start with. 50cc scoots use the regulated AC from a dedicated stator winding for the headlights. HID lights require DC and 50cc scoots do not have enough generating power to run the HID's and keep the battery charged.

dang thats a shame. Does anyone have any suggestions for making some more light? The headlights just suck. I tried LEDS, but the light doesnt carry as far. :/

Do you happen to know what bulbs are in there? LEDs are technically illegal for headlights anyway, I guess you can see why. We've got some lighting threads around here someplace, I'll see if I can dust them off. There's also an upgrade to an 11 coill stator that you can do and then run HIDs off of that. I'm not sure you want to go that extensive. Rich

Well I was wrong, I looked through the threads I thought might be of help and they were all about HID. Some of the guys have installed these type of LED running lights along with using the stock headlights. These draw very little power and provide a decent boost to your forward lighting. They are DC and must have the positive and negatine oriented correctly. You could wire them right to your battery with a switch. If you need any help doing something like that let me know. Also, you might post a question about this over on 50 to 200cc and see if the guys have any thoughts other than porno. Rich

Ok parts have started to come in.
The only thing I'm waiting on is the stator. I ordered a 8 coil stator vs the 6 coil one I used to have. Eventually I'll look into the 11 coil. I didnt even know they made 11 coil ones
I'll keep ya posted. Shipping is taking forever.

Stator came in on Friday. I'm going to be going to fix up my scooter on monday. I talked to my insurance guy today and he informed me that in AR I dont need insurance or registration on my scooter. In a few months a few of my previous tickets are going to clear from when I was younger and I will be able to lower my rates by 1/2. When this happens I'm prob. going to insure my scoot just to be safe
