This is a old example because now my scoot is tricked out to high heaven but this was my first mod thought I would share. So I rigged up a performance air filter on a stock intake. What I have is a UNI two filter intake and my stock mc 54 250B Intake pipe. I had to literally rip the intake pipe off the plastic cover that surrounds the regular sandwich air filter. They seemed to have glued the intake pipe into the plastic turtle like cover at the factory. All I did was get a screw driver and rip off the glue and pull the stock intake pipe through the plastic intake turtle cover thing. I am using a 51mm air filter. I had to shave off the plastic lip on the stock intake to fit the new air filter. All I did was get wire cutters and eat the lip of the stock intake pipe. I then connected stock air intake pipe to carborator (did nothing with that) and my new air filter to the other side of the modified intake pipe. There you go folks! A little air pollution line was connected to the stock air filter but i just tucked it up over a few other electrical lines.

Is the increased air flow gonna make any changes to the way it runs, carb adjustments, different jets, etc etc?
I like the idea of a cold air intake, butnot sure how it's gonna effect teh air/fuel misture, and running.
Thanx, looks nice

If it was previously a restricted Air Box type, yes it will effect it. Now you have quite a bit of air being sucked in and it will need more fuel otherwise it will run LEAN. Alleyoop

I asked that cause, I don't know nuttion' bout scoot engines. I've been riding Goldwings, Honda shadow 1100's and a Magna 750, and the general rule on all of em are that if ya change the exhaust or get a hi air flow filter, ya gotta rejet. Wasn't sure if these 50/150/250/300 cc scoots used the same logic.

Yes Davec, same thing all the motors need the same thing whether they are 8000 horsepower like your dragsters or our little lawn mower power plants(HAHA). Air, Fuel,Spark and Compression and the right amount to run at their potential peak. Alleyoop

which means the theory of air+fuel+spark and compression is subjective and does not apply to all.

I still have my stock spark plug from the factory in 2007 works great...

Not some diesel motor. But you will learn, just keep reading the post. Once you learn how motors and the different parts on a scoot work and what they do you MAYBE will be able to help folks fix up their scooters. Alleyoop

Even though diesel engines have glow plugs, they still have to get hot enough to ignite the fuel, which is what a spark plug does. Whether a spark plug, or glow plug, the theory of operation is still basically the same.
Ignite air/fuel mixture, push piston, turn crank, turn wheel, or wheels, move down the road.
