Brand new to the scooter world getting my endorsement next month excited for the gas mileage. I am in the Tampa Bay area. I have been looking around the net for a scooter that can travel 55 mph max speed. I want to stay under $1400 for a scooter. Here are my finding. Please give input on either model. First i have come across a CF Moto EJewlel 150cc fuel injected water cooled on craigslist with 8100 miles. Looks of be in great condition I am going to look at it on Thursday $800 cash. I have also come across brand new 09 Euro speed 250cc models in a cycle shop in Clearwater Fl for $999 after taxes and other charges comes to $1400.
I do realize that both of these companies no longer sell these bikes in the states. I would be a recreational rider and take it to work when the weather permits.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks Paul

The 150 should be fine to about 60mph and and cruises well at 45 to 50. The price isn't bad depending on how it was maintained. The 250 will get you to 65 to 70 mph if needed and cruises well at 55 mph but I'm wondering about $400 of other charges. Seems rather high for dealer prep or whatever, unless they are add ons, you know, trunk, speakers, windshield, proformance pkg. Other than that it just depends on how you plan to use it. Long trips and or passenger, go with the 250. Commuting and no passenger the 150.

I have two CF Motos, a 150 and a 250. Both are built like tanks and are reliable. Actually CF Moto is still selling in the states but have cut way back on their scooter line. You can still get parts through Alpha Sports and others so don't worry about that. I highly recommend the CF Motos and you can find them in Kelly Blue Book. That's not a deal breaker amount of miles on the Jewel but that's a lot of road that you don't know how it was taken care of. However, $800.00 is a good price and they would probably take less. That would give you a little coin for repairs if necessary. The EFI would be problematic to work on if needed. Don't get "bike fever" when you go look at it or you'll HAVE to take it home on the spot....been there.

Hey, how tall are you? These bikes are a little tall and heavy although the Charm is worse. If you're not around 5" 10" it might be a little problematic.

I did not expect this many replays. So a big THANKS from a new member!! The CF Moto was listed at $950 after a few emails back and forth and looking the CF Moto up on Craigslist he came down to $800 or a trade of a Geo Tracker or KIA Sport age. I can say confidently I will not have bike fever when going to see this bike keeping in mind I can get the EuroSpeed 250cc scooter for around $1400 out the door. What should I look for on the used CF Moto? Doesn't look like it been registered cause of no tags he has owned it for 3 months. What are the signs of scooter abuse or a scooter being taken care of espically the CF Moto?
Thanks again fellow members! Paul

Make sure he has Title. If not I'd walk away.

title and it should be plated too. If it is not plated you might have a problem to get it plated for one reason or an other. In some states the dmv will assess charges amounting to what the missed getting for the time it was not plated. Mo. is one such state. With out current tittle you buy a yard ornament.

Title is in his name he has stated he bought a new bike and transferred the tag. This is going to be a learning experience for sure. Still confused about gear oil and engine oil...
Thanks for the input!

What should I look for on the used CF Moto? Doesn't look like it been registered cause of no tags he has owned it for 3 months. Huh? It takes a year or two of riding to put 8K on a bike. Anyway, the dipstick is just in front of the muffler. Check the level by not screwing it in and see what the oil LOOKS like. If it's all black it probably hasn't been changed in a while=red flag. See if it starts easily and while on the centerstand give it some RPMs and see if it misses or bogs. See if he has a problem with a test ride. If he does then that might be a problem (I know you can't....he doesn't). We'll change the oils after you buy it, don't worry, it's no big deal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Jewel carbureted? The E-Charm had fuel injection but I thought the Jewel was the "Red headed illegitimate step-child" or some other colorful Cookees description.

Welcome Paul, another Florida rider I see... If you live in Clearwater you will be able to get parts from Partsforscooters.com right there. No problem for Chino parts... There are a few used Hondas in the area too, you just thave to look you can get one used for about what you want to spend. Hondas Love Florida, LOL..

KZ, I can't correct you if you're not wrong. I thought that they switched to EFI on the later years of production but I can't find any manuals that show that. I think they are all carbureted. Maybe Cookees can comment on this.
