Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment in Binghamton so I rode the Fashion. As I was riding along I saw two bikes coming up in my rear view mirror. The first to pass, slowly, was a Kawasaki Vulcan while the second was a Harley Road King. The Vulcan rider barely looked over, but also seemed intent on paying attention to the highway. The Harley rider was actually looking at my scoot with a big smile on his face. As he got alongside he looked at me, let go of the throttle (I'm guessing he had a throttle lock or cruise control) and flashed me a big "Thumbs Up". I gave him the thumbs up signal back and they cruised ahead and out of sight.
It made me feel good because I know that he knew what he was looking at and acknowledged how cool it was to see. Secondly it also showed that the Bike/Scooter rivalry isn't always true. It was a cool moment.
And yes, JR, I was on an interstate when it happened.

Kz... It is cool when the Harley Guys give the scooters the thumbs-up or pull into a stop and ask how big is that thing. In all the years I have been riding, even when younger I never have been on a Interstate... I have just seen too many sleepers and close calls at high speeds to ever want to get out there on a bike. I even to this day set the GPS to avoid tolls and interstates when driving the car on trips. I will hope to this summer ride to OK and AR to visit the kids and spend a couple months and will take no interstates at all. I am thinking of getting a good leather jacket and riding pants and boots just for the ride on the Silver Wing. Gonna be hot but may stand a chance if something goes wrong..

I understand people's fears of riding in high speed situations but the statistics don't lie. Most motorcycle fatalities happen at intersections and entrance/exits where people cross paths. It's a pretty high number too, somewhere around 75%. Interstate bike deaths barely blip the charts. Keep in mind those texting, sleeping, distracted dopes had to get to the interstate somehow and it was using the roads people think are safer.
I could ride on a parallel route that was the old road but it would take me half again as long and I don't feel safer there than on the interstate.

Not to start a war, but I in my experiences Harley Riders always "thumbs Up" or "low wave" other riders not so true with Jap bike riders.

I wasn't so surprised by the acknowledgement but by the enthusiasm. I get waved back to 99% of the time. He looked truly surprised and happy to see a scooter on the road even though I have 1/5 the engine of a Harley or most cruisers.

I haven't been following this thread until Proboards contacted me about it. They ask me to review it for physical threats and denigrating comments. I moved all of the posts after this point to a hidden board so I can go over them and see which ones can be returned to this thread. In the meantime I'm locking this thread.
