I have replaced the plug, stator and pulse coil, flywheel, battery, It "supposedly" had a new piston & ring installed, reset the valves to .004. timing looks to be right, fuel & vacuum lines are good. It just wont start! exhaust pipe gets warm and puffs a little smoke.. Any thoughts on what I missed?

Did you check that the cam shaft is in time? Has the motor ever ran after the piston and rings were changed. It is pretty simple to check the cam timing. Piston top dead center,....the cam sprocket must have the big hole at the top and the 2 little holes even with the sides of the head. At that point the valve clearance must be set. The timing marks on the side of the flywheel have been reported to be not perfect in some cases but the piston must be at the top of its stroke for sure. can check it with a straw thru the spark plug hole.

Set the cam sprocket like the FIRST PIC Then check the timing marks on the flywheel, the casing pointer should be pointing to the "T" mark or a LITTLE BEFORE IT. Take a picture of the SETUP so we can see if it is timed correctly. Alleyoop

I looked at the picture of the Timing mark and I labled what looks to me as the "T" MARK on the flywheel. IS what I labeled the "T" MARK? IF it is the MOTOR IS TO RETARDED and you will need to move the chain on the CAM SPROCKET 1 tooth TOWARD the EXHAUST VALVE(DOWN to ROTATE the flywheel Clockwise a little. Alleyoop

Yea, line up the CAM SPROCKET like correctly then MARK it LIKE I HAVE IN THE PICTURE so that way you know for next time, You can just put a little straight scratch on the chain and cam. Alleyoop

Reset the timing so the "T" is just above the pointer and still no luck. Any other thoughts?

I have to ask HOW DID YOU RESET THE TIMING IN otherwords WHAT did you do to RESET IT?
Did you set your valves correctly?
Have you checked for SPARK ON THE MOTOR ? Holding the Spark Plug on the frame and seeing a spark is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. It may fire on the frame BUT not on the motor. Check both See if it fires holding it to the Frame Then Check See if it fires holding it to the Motor
If you have SPARK then take the VACUUM HOSE going to your PETCOCK at the PETCOCK get a cup or anything and put a teaspoon and HOLD the Vacuum line up high and pour the little gas STRAIGHT down into the intake connect the hose back up and try to start it. Alleyoop

Pulled the cam & gear bolts and tensioner, rolled gear 1 tooth clockwise and reassembled. Now the "T" is just above the pointer on the case when the cam marks are even with the head casing. I did rig up another ground wire from the battery to one of the valve cover bolts. The valves are set @ .004. Header pipe does get warm after a few tries so I assume there is ample spark and plug is not fouled or flooded out. I gave it a shot of starting fluid in the carb with no change. I will go out and try the vacuum line prime.

just tried tuning it 180 out to see what happens ... nada same thing.. feeding the vacuum line didn't help... once it sounded like a maybe for a few turns then just spun over & over...double checked for spark and it was there.. Could the kick start/compression release have any effect on it? It was all removed,

No the kickstart has nothing to do with it, you can actually take the whole kickstart thing off for that matter. BUMMER, ok time to check for compression IF you do not have a compression gauge the next best thing is the finger test.
Stick your finger in the hole and hold it nice and snuge and OPEN THE HOLD THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN and crank it. If it has enough compression for the motor to run it should blow your finger off the hole. If you just feel some pressure then it is low on compression. Alleyoop

I tried moving the timing again the where the case pointer is pointing to the line between the T & F mark on the flywheel and set the cam gear accordingly as if TDC. primed the vacuum line.. same thing.. cranks over as if flooded then almost starts then back to just turning over... same old thing... might try going the other way a tooth and see what happens.. Next step is a BFH!!! lol
