8 days of waiting for QUALITY parts is not bad, doncha think so?, because it will take you years before you replace the same part, unlike the other parts made from (i don't want to mention the name of the country),yes you'll get it overnight but you have to order again after several months and replace them over and over because they just quit working for no reason. especially the stator, rectifier,,whew!!!they are very well assembled yes, BUT not well manufactured. in engineering course there is such thing as Mechanics of Materials also called Strength of materials, it's a subject which deals with the behavior of objects withstanding stresses and strains. i guess...they were absent when the teacher discussed this subject in their school..LOL

I have said it before and will again: How long do you think a car dealer would be in business if it took a week to get a common part for that car? Like starter for a 2007 chevy that would take a week to get? A car is no different than the scooter that is primary transportation for an individual.
IF CHEVYS took a week for common parts there would be no more chevys sold because ford parts can be had same day or next day. If the dealers will not carry the parts, we as owners should be able to place a internet or phone order to yamaha usa and be able to get next day parts just like you can with chinese scooter parts.
And then there is the $190 belt that is sold for $119 on line and it takes the same amount of time as from the local dealer that charges full buck plus sales tax on some thing that he doesn't even have in stock/ Because both on line parts dealers and the local shop orders the parts from the same place! The one and only parts house for yamaha!

I'm just wondering what's the reason behind Yamaha dropping models. I know scooters aren't a big seller but is it because they're developing new models, creating DCT bikes like Honda, feeling the heat from Taiwanese makers SYM and Kymco and shifting production to China or Thailand. And, yes, are they abandoning the market in America in the face of competition from Chinese made products and dwindling demand.
This doesn't have to be a pushing match. The outcome affects us all.

it's yamaha's marketing strategy, they will manufacture really good quality bikes then halt the production, they want people to crave for it, MEANWHILE, they allow the other countries(specifically that one country,i'd rather not mention the name) to enter the US market for scooters, they want people to experience it's quality then compare them to the yamahas and japan scoots in general. they want people to realize that the difference in quality is like heaven and earth. and indeed yamaha succeeded. but there are still some hard headed fews that were not concerned about quality... they just want to ride ride and ride! fix fix fix!

When jap products first were imported after the war they were junk much worse than the chinese are now. I was born in 42 and I remember them as I was going up. And now there are few examples of the junk left because being junk they were just trashed. Just give the chinese a couple more years and then try to compare.
Yamaha's strategy seems to be "the hell with our customers, they will get parts when we get good and ready." I can see why a local dealer might not be able to afford to carry every part but why should I as an owner have to wait an unreasonable time with out my ride because of some one else's problems. Stop by your local dealer and see how many he has in storage waiting for parts.

Actually what's sad about Yamaha is that they're going great guns for sport bikes and ignoring all other segments. Yes, they're a big name in Moto GP and AMA Superbike but invisible elsewhere. Even Motocross bikes are suffering. It's why Honda is Number One by a huge margin to Yamaha's second, worldwide.
Also, in fairness to Yamaha owners, any time you deal with parts remember the popularity issue. You can get aftermarket Harley parts faster than the dealer can. Any time an engine goes mainstream it will be a breeze to get parts. GY6 and CN-250s have been built in massive numbers worldwide so there are many suppliers at all levels. The head I just bought from Scrappy was $50, fully loaded. I took the cheap way out. NCY sells a performance head for $110.
Years ago 8 days for a part would have been miraculous. Heck, sometimes getting one at all would have been a miracle. Honda changed the battery in the 305 THREE times in one year. You not only had to know the date of manufacture of your bike, you practically had to know the time. "They switched that part before lunch. Was your bike built before or after 11:00 AM?" In 1973 I tried to get ignition points for my 1968 YR-3 350 YAMAHA. After a couple of months the dealer finally told me the factory wasn't selling points for bikes that old."Keeping parts around for old bikes took up too much room", seriously.

The only time I delete posts is when I consider the post irrelevant to the topic. Usually within two minutes of posting it. Try it sometime Luke.
