I think it's apples and oranges. The Honda flat 6 and cruisers lope along at low RPMs while the scooter engines wind out by necessity. Also, the big engines are water or oil cooled which makes a huge difference in longevity. Especially when the GY6 routinely hits 250 F, (click here for the unscientific study). Still, if used like they're supposed to be, they could pop some serious mileage. How many engines would last with the amount of WOT GY6s are subjected to?

I can remember when Oil was rated SE as the good stuff. Now what, SM? Engines and lubricants have come a long way since the bad old days. My friend's Kawasaki Ninja 250 had a redline of something like 16,000 and those little buggers last for years. I won't name a certain big V-Twin since it's made in Milwaukee, has been around for 110 years and is one of three American made bikes that isn't owned by Polaris, but it has a shelf life of about 40,000 miles before it needs a rebuild. Big revs won't necessarily kill an engine, bad design will. The engine in a Kymco Super 8 150 and Like 200i are both GY6 based. I wouldn't bet against those for long life.
Look at the 40,000 miles on automotoguy's Baccio with a GY6. Not running at WTO, changing the oil regularly and doing the valve adjustments at prescribed intervals helps immeasurably.
I'm sure the day will come when there will more of us in the 20,000 mile club. It just takes time and good tools.

60,000 on a GY6 based engine. Now that's something to shoot for. It really is about how you treat an engine. I'm betting that guy is kind to his engine and doesn't visit redline at all.
