Hi everyone I'm knew to this forum. I have a 86 Honda elite 150 I am working on and I am looking for advice on what tachometer people prefer to use to set the idle speed. 1,500 that it says in the book seems high and all I have is a old 4,6,or 8 cylinder car tach/dwell meter. Thanks, Scott

The 150s like to idle around 1500-1800 that is where you are going to get the smoothest idle and not vibrate a lot. Alleyoop

What if your wheel doesnt start to spin until 2500? Should it still be set that high?
My scoot rarely ever idles anyway except at a stoplight for a moment here and there. What are the dangers of a higher idle?
Even still at startup when choke is on its even higher still.

WOW!! 2500 idle and higher when it first starts cold with the ENRICHER, you have it set WAY to high, May I ask WHY??
If would say the Clutch has stronger springs if at that idle the wheel is not turning. Alleyoop

To use a standard Tach/dwell on a single cylinder 4-stroke engine just use the 4 cylinder TACH setting. Multiply the resulting reading by two. The 4-cylinder tach is expecting to see two spark impulses per engine revolution. Some engines like our scooters spark every revolution. The standard old-time automotive engine with a 1/2 speed distributor only fires a given cylinder every other revolution. A person just has to think about how many ignition pulses a given engine has per revolution. Take two aspirin and call the doctor if the headache persists.
