hi all new to scooters and have just bought a baotian 50cc bt49qt-9d non runner with no spark, managed to sort spark problem but scoot doesnt seem to rev up properly and has a lack of power approx 10mph on flat 5mph uphill almost coming to a standstill, there was no airbox when i bought the scoot so replaced with a new one is there a vacuum pipe that goes from the carb to it? is there any other reasons to cause this issue? any help would be great cheers

I assume this is a 4 stroke. if so the first thing you want to do is ADJUST THE VALVES: Adjust them both to .003 inchs. Then: Make sure no extra air is getting sucked in the AIR TUBE and AIRBOX there are no OPEN connectors if so PLUG THEM UP. Then: Adjust the Carb: www.scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=intake&action=display&thread=1499Then if still a problem: Take the CVT cover off and Clean out and check the VARIATOR WEIGHTS and BELT, they may be sticking and not allowing the belt to move up and down the variator. Alleyoop If you can take some pictures of the CARB AREA and HOSES that would be great also take a picture of the CVT with the COVER OFF.

thanks alleyoop will take pics and upload them, yes it is a 4 stroke 58 plate with 2800 miles guy i bought it from said he washed it and then it wouldnt start no spark im not sure if he was being honest or not as i would have assumed it would have run ok now the spark problem is sorted also not sure what hes messed around with as it was obvious he had tried to sort the problem himself judging by the loose bolts and missing airbox etc!!

Just hope it has compression and the problem is not bad rings or leaking valves. If not we will get it smoking again just a little TLC if the motor still has good compression. You can also test the compression if you have a compression gauge or use the Old Finger Trick. Alleyoop

Wait! He washed it?? No wonder. Time to check the carburetor. It's possible that there's water in the float bowl. I would just open the drain line and see. Also, have you checked the intake manifold? They have an ugly habit of cracking and causing air leaks. Even low compression engines will spin eventually, it sounds like something is leaning out the mixture.

It does seem as if it's a fueling problem that's why I asked if there is a vacuum pipe to the air box from the carb it's the same sort of bogging down when the pipe pops of a car or bigger bike, cheers will strip the carb off and check the inlet manifold hopefully it's something simple also I've noticed when the side lights are on front and back light up as they should but when dip beam is on the light is really dim but when you apply the brake the lights come on as they should I'm assuming its a bad earth?? Any suggestions??

Yes, check your grounds (earth) and also check your voltage across your battery. It should be 12.5 volts without the engine running and 13+ with it running. It might be a voltage shortage that's slowing you down.

Think I've found the culprit in respect to the power a split I ring on the inlet manifold I think the lack of power is what's causing the lighting problem too as checked all the electrics and they seem fine apart from someone butchering them!! Little bit of work and she should be back on the road cheers for the help lads!!
