Has anyone ever converted a scooter to electric from gas? I'm giving it some serious consideration. I've already built an electric trike from a bicycle and it's pretty sweet. It does about 25 mph and that's only because I limited it because the frame is not designed for high speed.
What would it take to convert a gas scoot?
1. Motor 2. Controller 3. New throttle 4. Batteries 5. ?

From what you mentioned on the other thread I am not sure electric is going to be good for you. You mentioned the speeds were highway speeds and it would take a lot more money than you probably would want to spend to be able to go that fast. A gas scooter could be converted but there are a lot of things all wrong with the frame as I see it. Mainly the engine mounting and where to put batteries. Batteries are heavy and they normally mount them as low as possible too. Deep cycle batteries are really heavy. Lithium are way lighter, but expensive and have lots more amps per pound. If you were traveling 16 miles x 2 on a 25 mile per hour street I would go ahead. I would have gone electric for my short trips to town a long time ago but I have an extremely steep hill on dirt and when I get to pavement I have 4-5 miles of 55 mph so electric for me is out. If I had 10 miles of flat ground and 25mph I would have it. john
