It has two expensive paper filters one on either side of the bike
And unless John or the previous owner raced in the desert, they should have protected the motor. Let me review the function of an air filter for you Luke. It traps incoming particles being ingested and holds them in the paper or foam element. The worst case scenario is that the engine eventually can't breath and stalls. Just like somebody stuck your banana in the throttle body opening. It had to be a very "POOR" design if dirt got past and into the motor. Very poor. Unlike more sophisticated Chinese designs that pick up their air from dead air zones at the rear and not from behind the front wheel. Did I mention poor design? That arrangement, and the bad design that allowed unfiltered air into John's engine, requires constant maintenance on the order of once a month. I've only seen my air filter once in five years on the Bashan. So I guess it's a much better setup than a Yamaha has. It's not a poor design.

very good tutorial KZ,,,you should write it in bold letters so Jct can see it, i think he is the one who needs to be lectured and scolded for not cleaning his air filter resulting to engine scuffing, but guess what, now he is claiming that it's the previous owner who is negligent, not him...
paper filters sucks, i don't use it, ,,,i used K&N....more air that gets in and more dirts gets trapped because it oil impregnated....professionals like me use K&N....

The scuffing occurred before I owned it. I could not ride that year because of my knee being so bad. I put very few miles on it until my knee was repaired at the VA. Once a cyl is messed up it doesn't make any difference what kind of air you feed it, it is going to wear out quick all by it self.

I don't blame John. I blame the scooter. A well designed scooter, like a CF Moto, doesn't need constant maintenance. Badly designed scooters, that don't last, need constant attention and K & N air filters. That's why people should sell their Japanese scooters and step up to quality scooters from China and " Buy Chinese scooters for years of enjoyment."

100 miles per gallon!! And he paid over $2000?? Rocket cost me $600 and gets 130 mpg. Plus it's tons faster and just as reliable. Actually Rocket is better. No pesky belt and rollers. I'll bet a Yamaha C-3 is even worse.

Come on you guys... I have had scooters and bike from every were, China, Japan and the good old USA and enjoyed riding them all. Right now I have two Hondas sitting in the garage and Dodge in the drive way. The guy down the street has a 150 China scooter and we get along fine.
Heck some folks here do not even have a scoot. I don't think this forum was set up for just China made scoots.
Wow.. For any one to think they alone make or break a forum is just stupid..

i dont like chino scoot for its poor quality and cheapness but yah youre right it can do the task... and YES it can go 500 miles in one day,,, but the question is, how many times it can do a 500 mile trip in one day?? my morphous can cross the country easily and it can do it many times, a chinese can probably go once or twice but due to the poorness of the quality of the materials used to build the parts it always encounter mechanical and electrical failure. here applies the saying, you get what you paid for. if i happen to have a 5 acre farm lot i wouldnt mind having a 50cc chinese scoot to get around the lot. at least if it stalls in the middle of the farm i wont get embarrassed because nobody sees me except my neighbors.

Totally agree Mike. I was just needling an adversary who lurks here and takes pot shots publicly at Rich.
I don't think this forum was set up for just China made scoots.
Again, totally agree. What I'm trying to do is educate. It's not the scooter that makes the ride. It's always been the rider. A Harley is clearly an inferior product in its genre, yet you wouldn't know it by its owners attitudes or the mileage some of them compile successfully.
I know that physically a Japanese scooter is better turned out with much better preparation for its new owner from assembly line to showroom floor. As Rapid Jim said, Chinese scooters are about the only product sold factory direct to an owner without passing through a dealer's PDI first. Most of the problems with China scoots is a lack of prep, post sale or a total misunderstanding of their capabilities that puts the scoot in a situation it was never meant to be in. My humble opinion is that a well prepped, intelligently ridden China scoot will last a good long time.
Oh and Mike. Luke's tirade is both untrue and unnecessary. I have 18,000 miles on my fleet, will cross the country as many times as Luke's Morph with any of my China scoots or Rocket and don't see an inferior component on my bunch. Certainly not bad electrical connections and a leaking fuel pump like a certain Yamaha I could mention.

Hey is your centerstand rusting? BTW your engine was probably made by Linhai and they just cast "Made in Japan" on the case to fool people.
