A wild off the top of my head....
Check the wires on the enricher. Is it wired backwards?

I was thinking that too Gman but that was one of the things he swapped. The polarity on the enricher wouldn't matter, you can hook them up either way, you can even run DC through them and it will work. It's just a non directional heating element.
OK Bolts, you have taken everything off the table but what's in the top end. Pull the jug and I bet you'll find a bad ring. I can't remember, did you check compression? Rich

I haven't checked compression yet, I was thinking maybe rings or possibly a hairline crack somewhere (riding a scooter on the freeway isn't the best thing for these little guys, that's how I blew my first engine). I was planning on checking compression today. The other thought that I had was the stator on the right side. Thought came to me after talking about making sure that it really was TDC and checking to make sure the woodruff key is still in good condition (it is perfect). I started playing with that and noticed that the green wire coming up from the pickup coil looks like it has been stretched really thin. I am thinking that it might be the problem. As things heat up if the wire is broken, it might be pulling away, and then loses continuity and dies that way. Thoughts?

Also I was thinking of swapping the stator with one from another of my scooters, but it is a six pole, and all the other ones that I have are 8s, would there be any problems with using the 8 rather than the 6, or is it one of those "as long as the connections are the same" kind of deals

The 8pole stator is a larger diameter you eill not fit the 6pole magneto on an 8pole stator .

It would be hit or miss with the regulator .

OOty Scooty owns a SYM dealership in California. He once commented that one thing they ran into all the time in the heat out there was the pickup coil would get hot and the ignition would cut out. He said everything looked and tested good when cold. As soon as it heated up it failed. Swap the trigger if you have a spare, that could be it. Rich

Sweet, I have a new one coming, good to get positive feedback on the fast fix, rather than the top end rebuild. I really didn't want to do that...

Update! Ok, I got the new stator, and as I was taking the old one off, I saw that the green wire was a bit messed up, so it is probably the cause of that not working. After I put the new one on, everything started up and ran just fine, now it is a matter of tuning! Thank you all so much for the help, and I hope this helps the next guy as well.
