Hi! I just bought a 2012 Ice Bear Ace Trike - aka Huzhou Daixi PST50S-12. I want to add/upgrade to the lighting using LEDs. How can I find out if my system is ac or dc current?
Thanks! Tommy

You do not have to worry about ac or dc system. All the lighting on all the scoots are DC 12v fed. They are either fed from the Regulator Rectifier which takes the Vac from the stator and converts it to DC for the lighting. Or the lighting could be fed straight from the battery DC. When they say is your system DC or AC all that means is the CDI fed 12v from the battery or from the stator that is all that means. So yes by all means you can change your bulbs to LEDS if you want. If you want to know if your CDI is AC or DC here is how to find out: Put the KEY ON and with a volt meter test the NUMBER 6 wire on the CDI, if it registers 12Volts then you have a DC CDI if nothing then it is a AC CDI. Alleyoop

Alley da man on trikes. There's a configuration on many scooters, although you're seeing it less, which is a yellow wire from the stator that is AC and remains AC even though it is regulated down to 12v. The Chinese like this because it's easy to run AC to a light and then ground it back to the battery. If your headlights, or any light, comes on after the bike starts, it's an AC feed to that light. If it comes on with the key it's DC. So any light that comes on with the key you could swap for an LED. Now, LEDs are not legal in this country for headlights. I think every other light they are legal. So scooters can be a mix of AC and DC. But I believe all of the 250's are all DC. To determine if your CDI is DC touch your multi to the power wire of the CDI and turn on the key. If it reads 12v DC it's...well...DC. Rich
