Nice retro scooter there bud, who makes that? I rode one like that for a year or so, it was a Motorino 150. It was a hoot. So the one in the pink helmet is awaiting the extreme makeover? Post some pix when you get to the project. Rich

I'm sorry, I do that every time, two strokes do not have valves to gap, they have reed valves. I always think in terms of four strokes since that is what I cut my chops on. Ignore what I said and heed the other guys' advice. Two strokes are actually a great motor and produce more power than a 4T. But due to pollution laws their time is probably limited in the USA.

Coming up on 7K on the SYM 300i and racking them up fast with 84 miles every work day. I plan on riding all winter so should be over 10 next year. I had almost 10K on the CF Moto Fashion till I blew a head gasket. My bad, can't blame the bike. Had 55K on a Vulcan 1500 but that doesn't count for scooters. Still, it's butt in the saddle, all year round too. You can do that down here, it's nice. Rich

Usual suspects
Set your valves and get that off the table in addition to Andy's advice.
The turn signal switch is bad. Try squirting a little WD40 into it and then push it a few times. WD40 won't hurt the connection and it might free things up.

There's some decent PDIs, like you say Big Guy's is OK. We do need a comprehensive PDI for the scooter community. It's kind of tough now with the wider variety of scooters out there to have something all inclusive. TBG's dates back to when scooters were pretty much all the same and had the same issues. It's more complex now.
Just kidding Andy, just pulling your chain brah, Rich

Rich, Do we have an official Scooter Doc PDI written up anywhere? If not then lets grab a copy of this one for now. Yes we do pineapple brain, if you look under "manuals, wiring diagrams, help files, and PDIs" in the Library you'll see "PDIs". There you will see the POS I created back in 2010 when I didn't know squat about squatola. Apparently I had also discovered triple latte's at Starbucks. Anyway, there's several other PDIs in the section cryptically titled "PDIs" that you can piece some info out of. The Big Guy's PDI is also in there. He was one of the first moderators on Scooter Doc and was a huge influence on me along with JR, Alley, and Rapid Jim. I'm not sure what happened to TBG but I still think of him at times. Hey Rich, hope everything is going well for you. Rich

I'm glad you like my avatar dudes. Everybody likes a little head, especially JR's. Now, you cannot reset a solenoid. It is a simple electronic switch. The current passes through the armature and pulls the large contact closed. There is nothing to reset, it either works or it doesn't. There is no circuitry like a computer to reset. If you get 12v DC to the small actuator wires of the solenoid it should click. When it clicks you should have continuity across the big terminals. If you do the solenoid is OK. Did you look at the link to illustrations I gave you? It explains all of the testing. This is not a complicated procedure, replace the fuse on your multi and do the testing. Or, like Alley says, get a new solenoid, it's a 90% probability that's the problem.

1. Turn on the key 2. Pull in the brake and make sure the brake light comes on 3. Take the black cable off of the solenoid 4. Pull in the brake and hit the starter button, if the solenoid clicks it's engaging 5. Reattach the black cable 6. Try to start it normally, if it won't turn, jump the solenoid 7. If it starts the solenoid is engaging but not passing current = bad solenoid 8. What did you test to roast your multimeter?

We've all been canned bro, it stings but it's not the end of the world. How about working for your old man? What happened to the computer biz? Maybe time to go full speed on that. When Cyborg talks about doors opening and closing he's talking about public bathrooms that he hangs out in so ignore that.
