I've used turbos in the past on other applications....and IMO that thing is a ticking time bomb! i would not want to be on a WOT trip when it explodes the motor.

I have a mid range bog still. Will a CDI help clear this problem up?
I also just ordered 2 sets of variator weights. One is a little heavier, the other is a little lighter.

Thanks for the info everyone.
I'll get it on the stand tomorrow, get it warmed up and then see if I can adjust it a bit.
I know this ole' dinosaur still has the guts because she ran well right before my friend tried to play mechanic.
I'll keep everyone posted, and also i'll check for a vacuum leak.

Well my Dino-Scooter with 13,159.9 miles on it is back together and so far so good.
I am however having a mid-throttle bog. It pulls hard off the stand still but then seems to bog in the mid range and then eventually evens out.
I don't think it's the variator weights because it didn't do this just a few miles ago. Now the air box is back together.
My friend borrow it to go to a friends house and he said... " he had to adjust the idle screw" ....
I think he may have adjusted the air/fuel screw on the side of the carb, and not the top idle screw.
My question is..what is stock for the idle screw? How many turns out/in. How about the air/fuel screw on the side of the carb?
It has a brand new stock carb on it.

Possible vacuum leak?
Is the diaphragm in the fuel petcock leaking fuel into the carb/cylinder?
Hows the air box look? filled with oil?

Don't spend a fortune on carb cleaner, get the 1.99 an from AutoZone all that stuff is pretty potent and will do the job well.
Make sure you spray in a vented area, as it could make you light headed.

When I was racing MX I used to use thin wire and wire everything up. If you can drill a small hole you can run wire through it and the stand, just in case the pin "falls" out again, the stand won't come off very easy.

13,112.6 miles and still going.
I'm going to buy a BBK when i find one cheap and install that.
Then I'll buy a 150cc if they can be found for 600 bucks and buy that to ride and keep stock.
My 50cc/BBK will be my project scooter.
I really thank everyone for all the help.

I have the crankcase vent tube zip tied upwards near the front of the seat as was suggested by another board member. I guess this lets the oil run back into the crankcase.
I'm gonna check the variator weights and see if they are clean or worn. They are stock and with a dinosaur scooter I have and 13,112.3 miles she's lived a long life.
I'm going to do a top end on the scooter soon as soon as i find a good deal.
I think with that many miles oil will find ways to burn, drip, and leak. It could be blow bye going around the piston rings too...who really knows. But that's quite a few miles.

The stock tach/RPM gauges on the Chinese scooters are not exactly the most accurate. My scooter seems to run about the same actually.
You can always get a Tiny Tach and install it for about 30 bucks.

OK thanks everyone for the helpful info.
The carb is actually brand new I just installed it a week ago.
The puff of smoke is coming out of the crankcase vent tube that runs to the cover over the valves.
I did find that my air box was cracked and I used some silicon to seal it up, with tape for good measure. It was missing a bracket and when being ridden the weight of the air box must have loosened up the crack. it is now secured and no more movement.
I'll go over all of the vacuum lines again to make sure nothing is loose as well.
Another question...
What are stock variator weights?
I am going to order a top end kit this week and thinking I may order new weights as well. I'm not going to a 100cc kit because the engine has high miles. But maybe a 72cc or basic 50cc rebuild kit. Whichever I can find the best (cheapest) deal on.
