One other option if you have accesss to a shop press . One might change the rear wheel /trannys gearings for more topend . Otherwise you need a big bore kit to run that type of jet setup. By upjeting to a too large sized your just wasting your $$$ without the bigbore upgrade . Will C.

I am starting a new winter project and I thought I would post as things go with it ! That was recomended by some of the senior staff on the forum . A couple weeks back I picked up a bare late 70's Vespa frame from a seller in California . The seller who isn't exactly "happy" with me (putting it lightly) for bugging him to death for 2 straight weeks about the frame , is supposed to have the paperwork ( bill of sell) in the mail via usps seperatly. The frame was shiped via Greyhound Package X-press from LA California . That cost close to $100 including the added gas surcharge and not including the wrapping materials. I went with a wrap instead of a box. The box would have taken more space and higher shipping costs . Weight was about 80-90 lbs. Greyhound was the cheapest way to get the frame here. FedEx was $150+ and UPS was $250+ . Overall the frame is in ok shape and not too baddly banged up . I'll try and get photos posted soon . The big issue will be the title. Before 1981 each manufactuer had their own vin numbers. In 1981 that changed when the US govt went with a standard 17 digit VIN format for all vehicles and scoots either made here or imported into the US. The Vin for the scoot frame wasn't in their ( california dmv ) current records due to that. I'll have to contact the CDOT special processing unit to get a new title . That means filling out a form and sending the bill of sell and any fees they may charge. I'll keep you posted as things go. This is my winter project . My roketa is still serving me for transportation till the vespa is ready for action next spring or summer. will

Check your stator first. This sounds like what happened to me in July . Check the electrical section in the reference area for how to run those tests with the multimeter. You need to run a couple of tests with the wiring coming out of it. A bad stator assy can cause no spark .They do wear out like other components !! will

I picked up my replacement valve stem this afternoon from a local scooter shop. That ran me $6 .It is abit different that what was in the rim but is of better design . The metal stem goes into the rim and is secured on the outside by an included nut. This should hold up much better with less chance of having the rubber crack as on the old stem. Next item is to get a bigger c-clamp to get the scoot up and going . a 4" clamp will not work on my 13" rims. will

Has anyone replaced their own valve stems on their scoots tires ? What tools did you use if you did? Will

shell gas

The union 66 gas stations offer ethanol free gas here in the Boise area. OTherwise the shell stations and other gas station chains ( Maverick , Stinker stations , others including Fred Meyer and Albertsons) have 10% ethanol in all their fuel they sell . I am not sure if that 10% ethanol has messed up my gas gauge sending unit due to corrosion. will

Mine does this aswell but I am a big guy ! It drops maybe an inch but doesn't affect the steering . Check your carb area . is it making a fulls seal at the cylinder head ? Airfilter where it goes into the Carb ? will

Are you getting any voltage from the stator besides just the spark ? You need a multimeter and access to your CDI . The Black and red stripe wire is voltage out from the stator that is part of the plug that goes into the cdi. The black white is your kill switch. There is a pdf under diagnostics : no spark pdf in the electrical reference area of the forum. That should help with diagnostics . Your voltage regulator is also a prime suspect at this point because of the lack of lights . Have you checked the voltage at the battery when your scoots running ? will c.

I am losing oil somewhere . I pulled my plug this afternoon and it was a charcoal black color on all of the tip. Not sure if my rings or valves are causing the issue. Input ? will
