It is in fantastic shape with the exception of the missing floor boards. I replaced the starter when I first got it because it had been sitting for a while. If anyone is interested, let me know. Here is the craigslist ad Sym Citycom 300i Oh and I am only selling it because I bought a motorcycle and I really think I am making a mistake....but can't have 2.

The buffeting around your head is caused by air flowing up and around your body from below. By spreading your knees, you change the airflow patterns and ease the buffeting. Cycle Air Dynamics 101. The gel pad is great for monkey butt. That combined with the sheepskin is awesome. I don't like the air hawk because once air is compressed it gets hard. That pad is not as comfy as you would think. Gave mine away for free. You have no idea how much you helped me! I would have never thought about the knees thing! Now I am riding around with my legs spread like a $2 hooker, but it is a much enjoyable ride that way. (that's what she said)!

So as many of you know, I recently purchased a used Sym Citycom 300i scooter. This is my first bike and I wanted to relay some of confessions being a new rider:
1. My butt hurts! 2. I was surprised how much time it takes to transition to riding and from riding a bike. Just getting all gear on and everything in place and loaded up can take 10 minutes. Much different than driving in a car. 3. My butt hurts!! 4. I was scared, at first. I am definitely more confident a month out. I realize I need to continue to learn and that learning will never stop. Cornering still needs work but my leaning the bike is coming along. This bike is fun to ride. It leans easily and I am learning I can push it a little more. It will take time. 5. My butt hurts!!! 6. Its hot here in the south. Commuting in traffic can really get you to sweating. But right now, I dont care, I want to ride constantly. 7. My butt hurts!!!! 8. I still have much to learn about maintenance. The starter episode was actually a great learning experience. I still need to know how to do regular maintenance. I am tempted to take it to a local bike shop to have them give it a once over. 9. My butt hurts!!!!! 10. Riding on the interstate is a SCARY experience. The Sym can do it, but no matter what bike I was on, I would be pretty hesitant about getting on there. During rush hour?....wow!. 11. My butt hurts!!!!! 12. I bought a jacket and a nice helmet. I always wear long pants but no actual riding pants yet. I have only high-top leather basketball shoes and a pair of regular leather gloves. I plan on buying more gloves also. 13. My butt hurts!!!!!! 14. Reaction from everyone, people I know, other riders, non-riders has been interest and kindness. I have gotten waves from all kinds of riders and it is commonplace. Maybe it is because the Sym looks different from the front, It could be that Sym looks like a regular motorcycle but everyone has been great about it. 15. My butt hurts!!!!!!! 16. I am getting a good bit of buffering in my helmet and my ears are taking a pounding. I have earplugs but it still loud. I was also looking at getting a new shield that might help. Seriously having a blast on this thing. Measured, because I am new, but this thing is fun to ride, will gitty up and go and is economical. I don't think I am saving any money though because a short trip takes me forever because I always go the long way. GREAT FUN!
I will add more as I think of them!

I haven't even ridden yet (well, just a little) but my biggest concerns are ....cars coming up from behind me and hitting me while I am stopped (had this happen when I drove my truck), second is probably cars turning in front of (because that is what seems to be the majority of accidents on youtube), finally, I am concerned about gravel and debris when taking a corner.

After the MSF course, I had some time to think about what kind of helmet I wanted and decided to go Modular. The first one was cheap and heavy. So I went with this: link

Sounds to me like your starter motor has brushes that are worn out or sticking. If you can tap on the motor and get the starter to work, the brushes are sticking and not making very good contact with the armature, or the springs that hold the brush up next to the armature are weak or broken, or the brushes are worn down so short that they no longer reach the armature. I would open the starter up carefully(watch for flying parts), check the brushes for condition, make sure they move freely in their holders, clean the armature contact area with a toothbrush, blow out all debris from the armature and field windings, lube the bearings. Brushes can be replaced, if you can find them, Certainly cheaper than a new starter, I will probably go ahead and give it a try seeing as I still haven't gotten the new starter that I ordered. What kind of lube should I use? (That's what she said). I can't imagine finding the brushes because I can't even get the starter. Does anyone have any advice on how I should handle trying to find parts for the Sym Citycom 300i? or how to try to figure out if other parts will work with it?

So I completed the course....I was wondering.....how would a scooter do on some of the you turn skill can they even do it without the clutch and friction zone? I guess I am going to try it when I get my bike running.

Day 1....did ok until shifting from 1st to 2nd...i had a hard time coordinating everything but I especially had a hard time moving my foot from over to under and vice versa. These are small bikes and I am long legged. I just struggled with it.

2 choices, travel to bigger city or shop the internet. Motorcycle superstore, bike bandit, Dennis Kirk, jp motors, gosh there must be a thousand of them on the net. Some times it is hard to distinguish a real dealer from a fly by night but those I mentioned are real and big dealers and I have used all of them. Edit.... Years ago before the net usually any one with a big ad in a motorcycle magazine would be OK, but today with the internet any one can put up a big nice looking web site and not have any stock or even a real business. I have checked a few bike dealers out that operate out of an apartment building and one did have a store and on Google Earth it appeared to be the size of a 2 car garage yet his web site indicated 20,000 items. i've bought from cycle gear many a time,,,,and ebay as well,,as far as the guy with the 20,000 piece inventory in a 2 car garage thats 3 helmets and a sh!tload of washers,,,,still have room for the jag and 3 bikes What a newbie I am! I just found out there is a Cycle Gear in my city....lol. Thanks!

I see the online places... The only problem is you can't try on anything. I was thinking there might be brick and mortar stores that actually have this stuff.
