Did what you you said got 13+volts it was sitting at 8+ without engine running. Battery has a molex type connector so I had to set up a way to get the readouts. After charging battery overnight, even though it didnt turn over I could hear the the starter trying to turn. I think its just and old weak battery (its a 2005) FYI solenoid test did same as above, once again thanks for the help... C

Appreciate the info, pretty much had already isolated problem to being "weak" battery, hence the original question, which was is the 2stroke charging system being the same as 4T. Battery was weak about 10.9v before starting. Charged it overnight, and I am about to double check voltages on stator, rectifier, etc. To see if battery is bad, or if its the charging system

1st a big thanks, have troubleshot many of issues on my chino Gy6s from info found on this forum. Currently I am working on a 2-stroke 2005 yamaha vino, that will only kick start. I am curious should the voltage testing be the same as on the 4-stroke stator , rectifier etc?

Yep, put the bike on the centerstand and remove the CVT cover. Start it up and give it a few RPMs. If the belt is turning the rear pulley but the clutch bell isn't turning it's the clutch. If so, you'll have to get an impact and strap wrench and remove the clutch so we can figure out what is wrong. Rich Thanks, and is their a place I can get a "strap" wrench?

The clutch disengages when the RPMs drop below a certain point so if your engine is off it's not connected to the drive train. If it won't turn over the most likely suspect would be a low battery, charge it up and see what it does. It is very rare but sometimes a clutch will fail in the engaged position. Just to make sure that didn't happen try to push the bike, if it will roll it's the engine. Rich I drained battery seeing if It would turn over, and I have since recharged it, scoot does roll, (was able to load on trailer to get home) is their an order of which I should start to troubleshoot repair?

What do you mean when you say "Now I can almost turn over getting compression from engine?" Are you saying the motor will not turn over 360 degress JUST 180 degress and it stops? Alleyoop Im still learning, but what I meant was it seems to turn over, but wont engage, when it stop runnong engine was still running but I just stopped moving (similar to belt snapping) Is their a way to test what you are asking?

First of all thanks for all the great info, I have learned a lot from just reading all posts and tech help. Have had a Tao Tao for about 10 mths now, and have a few small issues that have tackled by myself. Fathers drive drive belt broke on way to work, got home took apart CVT, had a hard time getting Variator off, but got there, cleaned up placed rollers back in, installed belt( couldnt get clutch bell off) and was up and running, 4 days later scoot bogged down, and quit on me. Now I can almost turn over getting compression from engine?? Any ideas could it be garbage in clutch that wasnt cleaned out. Or would it atleast turn over? Visual inspection inside CVT everything looks good??
