My 150cc motor started burning oil then started to really run bad. The plug is totally soaked in oil and there are metal shards in the oil.
I am thinking its just the rings?
Do you think I could just buy new rings/piston and install them?
Do I need to do any machining if it is just the rings?

Are liquid cooled motors more quiet than air cooled? I have both and it seems like the liquid cooled is much more quiet. There's a 50cc difference between my two scoots, but it still seems that even taking that into account it seems like the sounds are much different.

Probably will need a cylinder and piston kit. The oil screen does a good job of catching anything big enough to do serious damage so you might have a workable rebuild. You won't know until you take it apart. What do you have to lose?
By the way, I was unclear on that post. There are no DC stators, they're all AC. However, if it's designed for a DC CDI system it won't have a red/black AC feed to the CDI. On those types of systems the battery supplies the CDI with DC power. That can really screw a person up trying to install a new engine and the electrical systems are different. Rich Thanks Rich

What happened to the motor? They're not that hard to rebuild. You can get a rebuild kit for about a $100.00. But if you want to get a whole new motor they're easy to swap out. Just make sure you get the same type of stator. If you have an AC system and get a DC stator you won't have a red/black AC feed for the CDI. Rich One morning I started smelling burnt oil, and then over the next two days I could not accelerate. I pulled the plug and it was dripping with oil. I also checked the oil and found big metal shards in it.

Now, how can I convince the wife that after purchasing a new scooter yesterday, that buying a motor would be wise. Lol

My 150cc blew the motor. I was thinking about buying a new motor for it. How difficult is it to install. I know it's a relative question depending on the skill-set of the person doing it, but I just want an idea of difficulty.
I am pretty mechanical, but I have never done this. What am I in for?
I would sure appreciate some honest impute.
It's got 10" wheels, which I believe is the short case?!

My Verona (ZNEN) blew the motor. So, I picked up a kymco Like 200i (really 163cc). OTD it was $2843. It will be ready in a week.
