Unsure of wheel size off the top of my head. I'll have to look. I've never been able to determine an exact model for my scooter, however, it is a 2003.

I haven't exactly GPS'd it. But I wouldn't say my speedometer is wrong either. But of course, what do I know? I'll take a GPS to it tomorrow, but the speedo says 43 MPH

Alright, I will take a look at it tomorrow. If I get this whole thing sorted out and the air-fuel ratio perfect, will I see any performance gains (I mean its a 50cc that does 43MPH, so I'm not complaining...)?

She just doesn't know what fun it is good to see that you have some people to ride with. i ride alone. no one around here with scooters (or mopeds) Maybe you should tell your friends to get some. You know, drop them a few hints here and there

You take your CVT cover off and start your scooter with the electric start, but the starter bendix needs the CVT cover to stay in place, so your starter bendix flies off your bike in a random direction, possibly striking somebody in the face This happened last summer. Awkward scooter moments, anyone?

Yes, the fuel ratio screw is completely in, all the way and it doesn't even come close to dying. I have not changed the jets in my carb, and I do not believe the screw tip is broken (I may be wrong, so just in case, is it replaceable?) because I can turn it out until the bike literally drowns in fuel and dies. I will have to take a look at the fuel pump tomorrow, hopefully that's not it. I will also check on the enrichener, as I have noticed the RPM's are not exactly dropping as intended.

I noticed today that my bike appears to always be running rich. Giving a quick twist to the throttle SOMETIMES makes the idle drop low and almost stall and then comes back up. I have my air-fuel adjustment screw all the way in clockwise, but it's still rich. What can I do?

It's been a tough Michigan winter. It's probably been the worst winter I've ever been through and it's finally letting up. So tomorrow, seeing how we finally have our dad's bike reassembled and running, we will be going to pull our 50cc's out of storage and get them running. Hopefully our winterizing kept them able to start over the winter, because I don't want to clean the carb out. Any suggestions for taking the bike out of storage/things I should check (this is the first year we have had them, and thus stored them)? I can't wait to start riding again. It was such an acute sense of freedom. I can remember when a rain storm spontaneously hit us last summer while me and my brother were out riding...rode all the way home in the heavy rain..exhilarating. What's your favorite riding moment?

So I've heard that some scooters shipped as 50cc's actually end up with 72cc engines. Would it be possible to tell if you had one? Is it normal for a 50cc to do 45-47 mph? Because mine can, I'm just not sure if it's because it has the 72 in it or not. Any way to check?

Just thought I would pop in and say we finally got it running. It was NOT the carb in the end. The cylinder gasket was RUINED. If we hadn't ordered the whole set of gaskets, we would never have taken the time to look, but the cylinder gasket was torn in two. Everything is back reassembled and it starts and runs great. Time to put the plastics on (oh joy).

I totally forgot to tell everyone here about this before I put my scooter away for the year (and it's still not out, unfortunately). My starter wasn't always engaging consistently on my 50cc (making horrible gear grinding noises *shudder*), so I replaced the bendix on it. The thing is, the bendix looks almost exactly the same, but what it does NOW is really REALLY weird. It's not like the other one that would just come out, engage, and turn the engine a few times. For some reason, my new bendix comes out, engages, and then for some reason unknownst to me, my scooter starts like a car! Or at least it sounds like it. You know, the RPM's get really high and then drop low after the start? Why would a new bendix do that anyways?

Alleyoop is probably right about the compression. We ordered another gasket just now, we will get it disassembled and replace whatever gasket (if any) that is there. I'll make sure to check the valve timing as well, but I wasn't there to supervise the reassembly (my dad might have tried to crank the engine with the timing chain off for all I know..not that he would, but you never know, things happen!). Any instructions on making sure the valves are lined up like they should be?
