New toy

Picked this up today between Akron and Canton Ohio. It's a 1996 Tomos Sprint and it's filthy. Mostly complete but missing a few items. PO said no spark and he tried everything, bet he doesn't know that if the tailight burns out, there is no spark. Gonna fix it, clean it, maybe keep it for my boy, may sell it and make some monies, don't know yet. Maybe I can make enough money to buy another scoot like the last Tomos I fixed and sold. The picture sucks but it was dark and it was my BBerry. I will take some pics and post the progress.

If it were me, I would use a hinge and pop rivets.

The best part is that since we all know red is faster, the fan now keeps the motor cooler.

I agree with all the posts. I went for about a 30 mile ride yesterday and must have past 30 bikes of all shapes and sizes. I have started to give the head nod unless somebody gives me the lo wave, then I return it. Most guys did not even return the nod. I guess that is the way it is.

So I decided to take a look at my rear brakes today because they have been squealing aweful. I take off the rear wheel and decide while I have it off , I would paint the motor fan to match the bike like I have seen advertised and on other bikes. So I pull off the white fan and it needs cleaned real bad. So I get some Mean Green (found at your local Dollar General Store) and scrub it with a toothbrush, cleaner and water. I found some Dulicolor red that matches pretty good and I have been using it to touch up scratches and things. Two coats on both sides with a real light first coat. Put it all back together and took it for a nice ride, must have gone 30 miles today. I even ran to Wal-Mart for the wife, don't mind running errands as much. I know that this is an easy mod but I thought I would post it for anybody that wants to do an easy thing to personalize their bike.

Shock oil

Jon, How did you get the shocks open? I thought about doing this with my front shocks cause they feel a bit bouncy but was unsure about opening them. I have not looked at them hard but I think mine have an Allen head opening on top that may have to be unscrewed. Also, let us know if there was a difference in the ride as that may sway me.

Glad you ordered them. I really like mine. They don't vibrate, hold the adjustment and have much better vision than the OEM ones.

I always tell them the same thing. First one here with the cash gets it, whatever it is. If I could have STUFFED it in my Impala, I would have done it. Or, if the wife was home and I had the van, I would have gotten it. The timing on the whole thing just sucked. I thought about sending him a Paypal for $50 to hold it and consider it sold but when he said he would hold it, didn't think I had to.
duck...I'm still pissed about it. When am I ever going to find a scoot with 44 miles on it complete for $80...never!

I just got punked! I have today off and although I did about two hours worth of office stuff this morning, I am thinking, "What am I ging to do today?" My honey do list won't take long so I look on good ole Craiglook to see what's there. I see Pit Bike brand 50 cc scooter, 44 miles, no title will provide BOS. Needs new battery and carb...$100. So I am thinking, might get it for my 13 yr. old. With 44 miles, it must be like new. Battery probably needs trickle charged or buy a new one. Carb should not be an issue if I can't fix it. Hell, thing has got to be worth 400-500 even without a title if the boy doesn't like it. So I call the guy and ask him about it. Tells me got it without a title, has all the parts including he carb. Tells me all his kids have quads and taking up space, wants it gone. He tells me that if it is going to a good home, he would take $80 for it....BINGO! I tell him that my wife is working today and I need her van to haul it home. I will definately be there today (an hour drive) and he says I will hold it for you. I get the kids situated and about an hour later I get nervous cause I know that is such a good deal. The guy told me I was the first caller and it was only posted about 15 minutes when I called. So I text the wife and said I am coming to switch vehicles. I called the owner and told him I am on the way an should be there in a little over an hour, he says fine. I jump in the car with my son and stop for gas and going to go switch my car for the Odyssey. I leave the gas station and the guy texts me and says, sorry somebody just picked it up. I text back and said what about holding it? Nothing, so i send back and said that was a duck move and I have to tell my 13 yr. old it was sold. I hope I could return the favor to him in the future. New guy must have offered more money, unethical idiot. We even have an extra matching yellow helmet, would have been sweet. akroncanton.craigslist.org/mcy/1826205089.html

You know, It's bad enough when you are out for a ride and you pass a Harley or big bike and they don't even acknowledge you. This is one instance where size does'nt matter. Whether it's 1100 cc or 50 cc, we are all sharing a love or passion with two wheels. The feel of wind and bugs in your teeth, leaning into a turn, quick acceleration off the line, the smell of manure and road kill so pungent it curls the hair in your nostrils. You all know what I am talking about, you RIDE a bike but you DRIVE a car. Yet some of these people think they are better than me because the have a hog or glide under them. Some of these people have 25-30K in their bikes but don't have two nickles to rub together. Their choice, their lifestyle, neither of mine. It"s bad enough getting snubbed by some Harley dude with a bandana and shades cause he thinks he is in some way shape or form better than me, but when I get dissed by a guy on a scooter, ? I passed a guy on a 250 looks like and I gave him a wave and he never even looked at me? Are you kidding? I know he saw me. I don't understand people. When I take out the vette, I wave at every other vette regardless of the year. I don't snub people driving a C6 because it's too new and they just bought it without working in it. I don't hink, hey, when I need my oil changed, I climb under the car and do it but they take it to the dealership and have them change it. I don't think I am any better cause I get some dirt under my fingernails! Hell no! I give them the, "V" sign signifying VETTE to say great, we have the same love. Yea, I'm pissed.
